Hi Everyone

We have visited several historical villages in Portugal recently and I just thought I'd share with you lot incase anyone is looking for something different, a change of scenery or just something to do. I will add a couple of photos so you can see what villages to visit and a couple of our own pics too. Also there are Aires or overnight parking at most of the villages or close by to the villages that don't have somewhere to sleep.

That is a good question haha, I'm not 100% sure as it doesn't really explain that part on this leaflet. We visited Monsanto where the whole village is made pretty much out of giant boulders on the side of a mountain first which is how we come to find out about all 12 villages. We are currently parked up at Castelo Mendel and the locals are very inviting, even been invited to go for cheese and wine tasting haha. P.s Monsanto has a free bus that takes you up the mountain if you don't fancy the walk, it's pretty tiring lol.

Excellent info, did a search and came up with this link which provides some more info

https://gotoportugal.eu/en/monsanto-piodao-historic-villages/

and the official site

http://www.aldeiashistoricasdeportugal.com/en/
That's brilliant, thanks for adding the links, I can honestly say the villages we have visited so far have been absolutely stunning and really old school untouched Portugal. It's crazy because we literally have Castelo Mendo all to ourselves, the parking for it is right at the main gate to the village too.

Your welcome DBK, another village worth visiting in the similar area to the 12 is Marvao, it's a real lovely walk through the village upto the Castle, again it has parking put aside for Motorhomes :)

Love Marvao but I thought that I read somewhere (probably here) that the aire by the convent had been closed.

Richard.

Richard.
The Aire has become motorhome day parking only but the services are still there :)
