Hi all

I am looking at changing to two 100ah lithium batteries and wanted to know what brand of lithium batteries any members had in their motorhomes and if your happy with your choice

Also will the on board battery charger on my 2019 carthago work the same with lithium

Two Ecotree 110Ah batteries. Delighted so far. Don’t know about your charger but I had to have a Victron IP22 mains charger with a lithium profile (along with a Victron B2B charger a Victron MPPT solar controller and a Victron Smart shunt.

I have Ecotree, I just use the existing charger on a gel setting.

They do what they say on the tin, no issues at all. They just work, I did a review of them somewhere after installing and having them for a year.

2x120ah KS Energy.. 200 watt solar which I rely on to charge and only use stand alone charger if required.. smart altenator no B2B.
Works for me.

I have just fitted a Roamer underseat 230Ah battery with Bluetooth. I had previously fitted Votronic B2B and solar controller with lithium profile.
Roamer's advice was to set the EBL 101 to the lead acid setting rather than gel as the 1 hour absorption charge was better tha the 8hrs on the gel setting (14.3V on both). The Bluetooth works well although the app is still in beta and has saved me having to buy a smartshunt.
So far it's working v well with the B2B doing most of the charging.

I have Two 100 ah. KS with Bluetooth and a victron 30 ah b to b loads of battery life, as said
Don’t know about your existing charger, I keep mine’s switch off.
I also have a 230 v Bluetooth victron charger when on hook up. You won’t look back.
There’s a funsters discount think it’s 5% 🚐🚐

Set the charger to gel (it probably is already) and see how you go.
It'll work (charge the batteries) but not as well as a more powerful one with a Lithium setting. I don't recall the details but I think the Gel setting would never fully charge the battery but, if you fit Solar, that would make up the difference.
It would seem that any make of battery will suffice (do you really need the capacity of two, though?). It's far too early to know what problems might arise in the longer term but I'd avoid going for the cheapest. If cost is a consideration, I'd stick with Gel.

2 x 200ah ks energy compact bluetooth version (funsters discount code above)
I like the blutooth monitoring ability to see whats going in and/or out . I turned off the van charger, and just use the victron charger now and then on lithium setting.

. I never use the victron bmv now.

I have a cheap ultramax with BT. a votronics 2b2 (D+ control and Zero C switch) don't use a mains charger (occassionaly cbe on gel) why go lithium if on ehu? I use the BMV712 to control solar charging via an SSR (solid state relay) can set limit to what ever you want 90% summer or between 50-60% winter. ITs not appropriate to charge like a Lead acid ie to 100%. Read a few more threads (no read a lot more threads on Lithium Batteries).

If I would be in the market for Li now, I would go for Roamer heated all the way.

If you are only ever off-grid for a couple of days at a time then, unless you are putting heavy loads on via an inverter, a lithium is overkill.
Even without heavy inverter usage, a bit of TV watching and a few other things on a cloudy or shorter autumn day and parked up for even a longer weekend without EHU and you can still take a lot out of a 100Ah lithium. Worth also noting that, with appropriate B2B charger, you'll be able to get a lot more energy back into the lithium in a shorter period than standard batteries that would have a lower charge rate. If you don't drive that far between your stops, that may also be significant if solar hasn't been able to keep up (and not everyone has the roofspace for multiple panels).

There can be other reasons for using lithium than just capacity. For some it will be weight. For may it can be space, and although possibly pre-wired for a second battery (with some extraordinarily thin cable) I would have been left with even less storage space in my PVC.

For me, at less weight and the same size as a pathetic single 75Ah lead-acid, I doubled my useable energy fitting lithium, and even better as the lithium didn't need the breather vent of lead-acid, it was able to squeeze into a different space, next to other wiring so I gained useable storage space.

100% DISAGREE.
We have 240ah lithium and no inverter.... why...
Because our form of moho'ing is to reqularily sit on a rally field or CL for up to 14 days without EHU and once there we do not go driving about but even on the rare occasion we do drive we don't have B2B and with smart altenator we do not put anything back in battery
Also we only watch TV when we cannot sit out side because of the weather so we sit in and watch TV.
And there is the rub... sit outside, loads of sun, full batterys no need for lithium....sit inside, pissing down no solar, telly on draining batterys, lithiums a god send..no more TV crashing when battery still showing 50%.
So cyberyacht IMO it is not what you are powering with your lithiums but how long you want them to keep powering them that is more important.

We have 2 x 100amp (150amp bms) NDS lithium batteries, supplied and fitted by Roadpro, with 2 x 30amp b2b and a 2000w inverter wired to all sockets. We kept our CBE 516 charger which does ok set to gel setting. Don’t need it that often as charge with b2b and solar. All works amazingly well, would highly recommend.

Like I said, a couple of days. Two weeks, I'd definitely go for Lithium.
Yes you did... and as I said even for only couple of days we do not have the means to recharge if not sunny...
So as i said, not what you do with it but how long you want to do it for!!

I have 2 x 100amp Sterling lithium's with bluetooth app and a B2B charger. All works brilliantly.

I've got a pair of KS Energy 120Ah in my Carthago. The charger, as recommended by them is on the 'gel' setting although I rarely have it turned on, relying on 300W of solar and the 'non-smart' alternator.
Did you change the split charge relay or run other cables in? Just wondering how the OEM wiring copes with the current flow and have you measured it? We have a C-Tourer and I am keen to upgrade to Lithium but want as "full a picture" as possible before spending the dosh. Ta

Just done a straight drop-in. Euro 5 alternator pushes in about 15A according to the battery Bluetooth app.
To get the best out of it you really need to fit a B2B & if your solar doesn't have a Lithium I would change it and if you use EHU best to change the mains charger if yours doesn't have a Lithium profile.

Despite what sellers claim there is no such thing as a drop in replacement Lithium, it may work but it will have a shortened life and you won't get the best out of it.

The biggest advantage of Lithium is its ability to recharge quickly absolutely no point in fitting if you don't take advantage of its main features.

Solar Controller has custom settings that can be tweaked for lithium. On a sunny day in the warmer months, the solar plus the alternator can provide 25-30A between them. Adequate from my point of view without additional complexity/cost of B2B.

Been doing a bit of research and comparing specifications ready for my purchase. Not much more than the cheapest well know brands but the KS batteries with 10% discount and 7 year warranty look good to me. The Roamers have 10 years for a bit more again. If you don't want BT and a shorter warranty then the Renology's look ok. Plenty of other options of course.

the blutooth monitoring is a plus for me, I do have the Victron system but tend to hardly check it these days

This is the Best Buy in UK at the moment. For the spec and additional features, specially if you do cold weather.

Roamer and KS Energy seem to sell a generic lithium battery and Roamer have stock of the 100Ah at £600 each

Still too much for me, I cant justify them yet and I'm never on EHU :Eeek:
