If your looking to wild camp at Croyde i think you will find that very difficult if not impossible, back in the day (late 70's) when we used to turn up late (1 or 2 in the morning) we used to park the car behind the farm house which i think is now called Orchard camping and go to sleep in the car and then put our tents up in the morning, off season nobody even bothered collecting money from us although i expect that's changed. There was never a gate so you could just drive in go around the back of the farm house and up the field a bit it does have a bit of a slope though. Might be worth giving them a call.

The entrance is between the blue sign and the post box.

You can see where all the cars are parked in this one.

We use to stay there but like everywhere in croyde it's become a money pitt the farmers son-in-law runs it now and has proper marked out pitches etc ,just thought somebody might n
know a little place to get a few hours sleep instead of paying £35 a night when we will probably roll up at 10 seems a waste of money

Go into the carpark behind the village hall, late at night no one will bother you. Get up early and leave no mess. (y)

Also there is a car park opposite the Thatch which is probably for the pub, maybe they would let you stay there for one night if you were using the pub, they do good food as well or at least they did the last time i was there.

Don't use the National Trust car park in Baggy Point, you will get locked in and the Rangers take a somewhat dim view of those that deliberately try to get locked in overnight.

That car park is for the pub and is not very big.

isn't there a place for motorhomes to stay over night at baggy point?
I thought the car park had barriers now?

I don’t know why but I hate Croyde.

We booked in for ( and paid for ) a week on a site last May but left after 3 nights.

I hated the pubs and restaurants and the general feel of the place.

The highlight of the stay was some pretty crappy fish and chips we ate from the site chippy ( in the rain)

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I started to go there in my splitscreen 20 years ago and its gone mad there, campsites where chilled and not expensive would let you stay for one night etc, money has spoilt the place! I don't blame the campsites owners for wanting to make money but they've got very greedy, Still enjoy the vibe there though but we hardly go back nowadays.

It dosent say you can stay overnight though? or am i missing it?

It doesn't appear to say one way or the other so you would have to have a look and see i guess, if you want to be safe go to Appledore, you could always check out the Croyde car park the next day for future reference.

I used to go there every other weekend back in the day, we used to do a regular gig in Twickenham on Friday nights, drop all the gear off at the drummers house, shove a mattress in the back of our mk1 transit and a surfboard on the roof and drive down there, get there in the early hours have a sleep and then up and into the water and spend all day in there get out in the evening have a shower and then into the thatched barn for a huge T bone steak then into the pub have a few beers get back to the van and sleep the sleep of the dead. Happy memories :) I haven't been back for quite a few years now so it's sad to hear that it has become so commercialised, i hope you have a happy trip wherever you spend your first night.

There are quite a lot of carparks with Motorhome bays in the Torridge North Devon area. The official policy is that its not for overnights but common knowledge that they re not policing it.

Not sure about the parking in Croyde sorry but there is a lorry park in Barnstaple, they re normally OK if you are sensible.

Just spent time on Churchfields at Appledore and the pay and display machine has a specific button and instructions for motorhome overnights. It is being policed by Torridge Council.

You will notice a difference now if you have not been for a while, new housing springing up here and there and at Saunton along the top road. The pubs are busy on the weekends full of all the gear no idea surfers. I still like the place but much preferred it 30 years ago. Be interesting to see what you think if you have not been for a while. Have a good trip.
