The dog doesn’t like the clanking and groaning noises when the wind gets under the Omnistor awning.

I must admit I’m not keen either and daren’t leave it out overnight. I think many of us have got out of bed in the wee small hours to wind them in.

As an alternative, I was looking at these sun canopies which fit into the groove on the front of the fitted awning.

Has anyone got any experience, good or bad?

I had one that was designed to fit on the front of a tent, but found I could hook it on to the roof of the van.

I didn't buy the sail specially, it was just lying around with our old camping stuff. I think it's Khyam brand.

No modifications required because there are suitable posts / hooks on the roof of the van and the sail has heavy duty rubber bands that just hook on securely. Very lightweight nylon, took less than five minutes to put up, but needed the aluminium folding step in the pic to reach up to the roof.

It's large but wouldn't stand up to severe weather. Makes a great sun shade however. :giggle:

Why didn’t you like it? At £110, I need some feedback please 😀
Well I didn't pay £110 that's for sure - bought this
Sail shade
and a couple of tent poles - perhaps £35 all told.

I don't carry steps high enough to attach to the roof.
Putting up the poles on your own was a right PITA, as was getting the tension right, so it didn't flap, nor ping off one corner or other.
Just too much faff for me.

If you want to go down this road, then I suggest the cheaper sail/pole combo and perhaps some awning rail tape to attach to the sail, to easily slot into the existing Omnistor.

The groove or slot on the front of the awning is the equivalent of a Keder rail as attached to caravans for their awning. We had a sun awning from our last caravan and I wanted to do as you suggest. However there are several sizes of keder rail and the beading you feed in needs to be the correct size. Ours did not fit! The spec of the canopy you are looking at says 6mm bead so you will need to check that it is compatible with your omnistore. Good luck.

We picked up a 3m x3 m sale with eyelets at the corners from B&M stores,£10, but it is made in china and the sewn edges are not that good but the cloth is ok. Used it on one end of the awning so far and it was ok.

Now £7. with £3.95 delivery if required
