Hi

we are planning a family holiday next year on the Île de Ré for my 50th. Three vans and (adult) kids renting a static chalet thingy. I have looked at this site which seems ok but would be interested if anyone has any experience of it, reviews etc or any other recommendations?

thanks Steve

Hi Steve, we stayed their in June. We enjoyed it, easy walk or cycle into the harbour for shops/restaurants etc.

St Martin is busy, which month are you going?

The site itself is a mixture of pitch sizes, tucked into the medival wall. It can be noisy as it's next to the road and it's a busy site with good loos, showers etc. we were the only Brit van, we didn't book and stayed for 2/3 nights (can't remember). We then moved further up the island.

we are going towards the end of June and will stay a week on the island and then tour for a week. Two sets of Parents in MH's all around late 70's early 80's so having the town within easy walking is needed. Kids 18 and 28 and both watersports mad so they can kitesurf etc and me and the Mrs can cycle which is why I thought of il de re. Just want to get the campsite right. sounds like it will be fine.

cheers

I'd have to get my log book out of the van as I can't remember all the names but the il de re is beautiful, I think it would work out really well for you all.

I'll check it and get back to you next week.

Just spent a week at La Grainetiere which is 1 mile from the harbour at La Flotte and 2 miles or so from St Martin.
Very good site and well recommended.
Also it takes ACSI until early July.

Was there in 2011 but only stayed for 24 Hrs. It's a rugged place and a little exposed to the elements I.M.O.
In my view there are better places to stay in and around Brittany. Either way, I hope you have a fabulous time. France is great!

Stayed at the St Martin site last year, plan your access route using google earth, its one way and if you get it wrong you end up in places you don't want to be with a mh as I know only too well. Good site with easy access to the town and Harbour, great places to eat in the town but, don't overlook the place on the site, good food and fantastic value. I will definitely go back there but probably only stay in St Martin for a couple of days .

Some pitches are quite small on this site we had to take bikes off the back of van to get in but vans are coming and going all the time so you can always move when a larger pitch is available. Access is one way but no problem. There is also an aire at the entrance to the site but is not much cheaper than the site. Great cycle routes around island not many hills.

We stayed in the municipal site in St Martin, I think, and loved it. Wonderful cycling, but shops & restaurants a bit expensive. Just back from the Ile d'Oleron, a bit further south which we also enjoyed very much. Bigger than Re and cheaper!!

We also stayed at La Grainetierre at La Flotte....a very good site....centrally located to tour the Island.
Isle De Re is a bicycle paradise and so easy to get around......enjoy it....we did.

The aire (I an on it right now) is half the price of the municipal, its 11 euros inc water. Best time time to arrive is between 1030 and 1130 that when there are people leaving fem the previous might. If you arrive later you have little chance of a space. Do not park on the car park next to the aire, you will get a ticket.

We stayed there 2 weeks ago, arrived late in the evening after being mortified with the first aire across the bridge, and it was all we could find at the time. Cost us nearly 20 euros, got bitten by mozzies as we were under heavy trees so quite humid. My husband got in the shower at 2200 hrs and everything went off, on a timer ! Looked a little better in the day, but we found Les Varennes and happily spent 2 nights there. Lovely site and we'll go back next year. Can hire bikes too.

Our fourth glorious year!
Stayed at La Granitiere next to La Flotte in May.Great site for easy cycling into La Flotte and St Martin.Looked at the aire and municipal site in St Martin but preferred the trees and shade you get at the La Flotte site. Also stayed one night at the Loix site but went back to La Flotte again after as it is more centrally placed for cycling.Great place to stay.
