Seems to be quite common this year I have just paid £35 a night at silverdale Cumbria but the site was very quiet with tourers so they might be shooting them selfs in the foot

not long enough
just had a look at their web site, phenomenal reviews and feedback

the site does have a heated swimming pool and access to beach, does sound a pretty decent package even at that price

also from reading reviews sounds like you will struggle to get in, bit like Sandy Balls I guess, they were full last weekend at similar rates

As a solo traveller I find the cost of most commercial sites are ridiculous, especially in low season. It is why the club sites, with all their rules and regulations, are a far cheaper option when travelling alone. Full facilities in great cities are costing around £13 per night at present for me so that is what I am up to. Just back from York and off to Cambridge next month.

They had no bookings taken for the mid Feb weekend I enquired about , they were empty .
Needless to say I didn't book a pitch .

I guess they have to make a profit and the accountants make decisions the year before what the prices are to be , it's a fine line they tread less people on site but paying a higher price or more people on site paying a higher price (does that make sense) only at the end of the year will they know if it's the right decision.

There are quite a few to choose from near Beamish and if you are a member of CC or C&CC there are a few 5-van sites too.

Try going to some sites if there's 5 in your van!

Some sites just charge per pitch or per adult, which of course suits me and seems fairer. With some sites that charge per adult and per child though, 2 adults & 3 kids gets a bit expensive. I see huge variations in our costs.

We have nearly always found our sites fees in the UK much higher than in Europe. We travel out of the school holiday times and find it rather depressing in the UK with such high prices for sites and eating out as well as the often disappointing weather and crowded roads. It makes for fairly expensive trips so we only do them now if meeting up with friends, otherwise its through the tunnel and head south for us!

@Minxy Girl thanks .. were on a 5 van site now .. just fancied a few more facilities (more concrete and tarmac really as we're sick of mud) ..

We visited Sandyballs last weekend.
The site was extremely quiet, costing a modest £16.50pn for a family of four.
February's inevitably expensive due to school holidays.
I've got a 15% off code if anyone's interested in booking...

Only last night Mary asked me last night why don't we do more touring in UK. The answer was it was too dear, and the weather cannot be relied on. This thread confirms my thoughts.

I would prefer to turn right out of the door and go to Plymouth and catch the boat to France than ANYWHERE in the UK.
Costs us about £260 after Club Voyage discount but after about ten to fourteen days that cost has been overtaken by wherever I go in this Country.
I would NEVER EVER pay £37 a night no matter what the quality of the site.
