Versailles

General Information

I have marked up where I firmly believe you can park for the day. We parked on the road but we saw motorhomes parked here and saw ones parked overnight as well. If that isnt right when you get there please dont blame me. Otherwise its extortionate euros for a campsite.

You dont need to pay if you dont want to be herded round the interior with a bunch of tourists who get really really annoying with their selfie sticks looking at beds Louis Xiv slept in. I m sure its interesting to some but...

We had a great time there in 2019, staying at the campsite in https://www.campingparis.fr/en/

Parking around parts of Versailles can be free in August.

The gardens are stunning; don't miss out on the mini village / farm that looks lovely.

Visitors benefit from booking in advance.

I stayed in 2010 and then the camp P.A.J was open at €7 a night, stopped 2 nights and then a day on the road outside on Allee des Matelots which is facing the entrance to the gardens. I have thought about going back but wont pay €35 for a campsite and cant decide on google maps whether you can still park for the day on Allee des Matelots , there are no parking signs but don't know if it is for the grass verges so may check it out if in the area. Worth noting the palace is closed on a Monday.

We stopped at the avenue de paris 48.80042531952661, 2.137143445174554 which was just outside the paying zone,
I wouldnt recommend it as it was the worst nights sleep known to man.
Perfect if you get up early and get there early to park free here though.
We also made the mistake of trying to head East out of Paris and ended up on a road that goes past the eiffel tower and through shed loads of tunnels with junctions underground so you have to be in the middle lane on a Friday during rush hour.

Parked in the main car park outside with the coaches paid 15 euros first day however the second day they tried charging 60 euros. I refused saying only paid 15 the day before and after some time they let me off with fifteen mind wouldn't try again. Fantastic place though.
