I know the discussion around high value insurance rumbles on and like any insurance it is very dependant on individual personal details. My insurance was due for renewal on the 4th December and have always been very happy with ERS via the broker Buckinghams Insurance. The renewal price this year had gone up by £100 which in the grand scheme of things was not too bad. Before placing the order for our new van I checked with Buckinghams that ERS would be willing to cover the risk, they appear to be the only company in the U.K. willing to quote on a £600k + risk. They confirmed they would cover so I went ahead and ordered, don’t want a new van I can’t insure!
I also went out to the market to check what was available else where. Adrian Flux came back with a quote 50% less than ERS but would not cover anything above £400k so come the swap in May I would need to return to ERS. I asked Buckinghams if I were to go elsewhere would ERS still quote. They responded saying ERS would still quote but they would look more favourable if I were transferring from existing policy. This gave me a dilemma. My plan was to go to Adrian Flux, then cancel the policy and move back to ERS when the new van arrived. But what if they give me a crazy price and with no alternative be forced to pay it…mmm decisions!
Very luckily a friend drives two high end cars and uses Marcus Crisp from Crisp Insurance Management he suggested I give him a call as Marcus is keen to get more into the motorhome market. I called Marcus and without exaggeration it was the best experience I have ever had with a broker. He asked me to explain everything in detail. I explained I’m in Thailand until March so not using the Motorhome until then, and the details of the new van hopefully arriving in May. His advice was do not move from ERS but if I signed a transfer of broker request he would speak with ERS to review the policy requesting a limited mileage 1000 miles policy on the current van transferring to the new van around May. He did some really detailed negotiations tailoring my exact needs with the underwrite, exactly what you would expect from a Broker.
Sorry for the long winded details, but if anyone is looking for more complex insurance Marcus is definitely worth a call. My policy has been transferred I’m still with ERS and they have agreed in writing to accept risk of the new van in May and I have paid £2150 less than I would have had I remained with Buckingham as my Broker who were not interested in doing any work for the premium.
If anyone is looking for insurance which is a little out of the norm it’s worth giving Marcus a call.
