Been dealing with them for a couple of years now and they are very good. We have had a couple of problems with our Laika but they have been dealt with without any hassle. We live some 200 miles from their service centre so it’s great that all the preliminary work ie. Discussions and Parts needed can be sorted via email with one visit to get it sorted. Other Dealers we have used seem to think it’s acceptable to visit 3 or 4 times to get the simplest of faults fixed.
We feel confident that this company won't let us down.
We bought our vehicle in December 2017. The handover was really thorough and lasted as long as was needed. We had owned two vehicles prior to this one and so didn't need to cover everything in depth - having said that, the handover lasted around 5 hours. Lunch was provided and we felt really valued as customers. It was a very exciting day for us and everything was just great - no let downs.
We went back this week (March 18) for a couple of minor issues to be rectified. We were given a courtesy car and by early afternoon we were on our way home, everything having been fixed. The staff in the repairs section are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Bought our new Burstner A Class from Southdowns in 2015. Service and attention at point of sale was good and aftersales service in their purpose built on site workshop, excellant.
Unfortunately, the after sales comes at a huge cost. Last year I had annual checks and other works carried out by an alternative Burstner franchised dealer at almost half the price quoted by Southdowns.
I wanted a habitation check to incorporate a damp check ( as recommended by MMM) but they insisted on charging seperately and additionally for each. Other dealers incorporated one within the other as a matter of course. Other work quoted for was lost to them producing savings of over 50%.Their quote of £534 against a charge of £250 !
It's disappointing as we would prefer to have a good and reciprocal relationship with our dealer.
Got a great deal on our current MH. I currently have one small issue with the fridge which is dating from converter install. Southdowns have been quick and efficient with telephone service and offers to help are easily forthcoming. Staff we have encountered both in the showroom and in the service centre have been friendly, helpful and efficient and know their stuff.
Looking forward to our visit to the service centre on Wednesday to get the fridge issue fixed.
A very professional outfit.
The headline says it all. I have bought three vans from Southdowns and have always been pleased with the service given both sales and after sales.
They have grown considerably in the time I have done business with them but somehow they retain the family business feel. The workshop is always busy and appointments take longer to get now but they are always ready to help you out if the need is urgent.
We bought our used Frankia tag axle from them two and a bit years ago when it was five years old. As others have said, we were allowed plenty of time to browse in the vehicle at our leisure with no pressure.
When we examined the van before purchase it was clear that the leisure battery was shot, and we were promised a new battery. On collection, I was pleasantly surprised to see two new Varta LDF90 batteries fitted, which were what I would have chosen myself, and new twin Gaslow refillable cylinders when I had expected one. Clearly, Southdowns were not skimping.
Just on a year later, the third significant problem with the van cropped up. (None of them was Southdowns' fault, I should point out.) I took the van back to them intending to reject the vehicle and expecting a dispute but had the wind taken out of my sails by the Service Director, Andrew, and the Service Manager, Andy, meeting me and proposing how to fix things and offering to add a few items of compensation for my trouble.
The approach to accepting responsibility without argument was very refreshing, especially when compared to the reluctance of some other companies, as reported on the forum. I was delighted with their response and we still have the van.
We brought our motorhome just under a year ago (Laika) and what great service we had from Andy Martin he let us browse for hrs without no pressure selling, he didn't try to sell us the earth moon and stars, it was very relaxed, upon picking the van up there were just a few snags but this was picked up by Andy and swiftly dealt with by the aftersales team, I feel I must mention Ryan and Julie as Andy the service manger always gets the praise a big up for them as they kept us informed of the progress. A yr. down the road the damp check was carried out by Dave and again very good service. I would definitely recommend Southdowns
