Last night was spent at Tan Hill Inn
Despite its fame we found it disappointing. Maybe they were relief staff but a bit of a shambles and the food was nothing to shout about either
The very long single track road off the A66 is fraught with anxiety at meeting a big vehicle coming the other way.
Glad to be out of there

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Hope you've got your winter woolies as there's a northerly wind blowing in?
Excellent photo's.

It was the loose livestock that worried me !

Are you gonna visit the Beamish living museum ? One the best days out we had during our UK trip a couple of years ago

The trouble with the Tan Hill Inn, they go through staff like there's no tomorrow, always getting new managers that never seem to last to long,

Full Time 2011-2013, now part timers!
A few years ago I was support for hubby whilst he walked the Pennine Way, and it involved coming up from the village at the other side! An extremely narrow walled bridge, a 90 degree bend and the steepest hairpin bend I have ever encountered was nearly the undoing of me! Met him at The Tan Hill Inn, and I thought the road down to the A66 was a piece of cake after that! Didn’t help that Paul is the usual driver - never again I said at the time! Try to keep to bigger roads when I’m driving the van now! ?

Staff must be hard to attract as it’s not surrounded by houses so nobody lives locally and not on a bus route, means everyone has to drive there.

Love the Breamish site and a walk around Claypits lakes and browse around the Antique shops up the road. Yellowcraigs a favourite as well as we lived quite near.

The cat and fiddle is still closed, no takers for the licence.
I wonder if it’s one of those pubs that’s busy weekend and absolutely dead in the week, but with rent and rates that need it to be busy all week.

Have never been there, but if the numbers don’t add up nobody with any sense is going to open it.
Highest pub in England, it's where Everrest used to do their double glazing adverts. It doesn't have any locals - apart from the swaledale blackface.
