OMG so far in our van we have done number ones which using Thetford blue is fine. Going somewhere week after next where we may need to do number 2 in the vans toilet, after seeing those 2 YouTube video's I'm worried lol Please tell me its not as bad as that when emptying the cassette. We are away 3 days I'd rather bung myself up with Imodium than go through that.

You might need to wean yourself off Blue as it is no good if you want to dump into a septic tank or small digester plant as it kills the bacteria, and I don't think you need it or anything.

I do not have a photo (Sorry Jim) but one of the more unusual cassette facilities I have encounterd is best described as a 10cm standpipe drainpipe with a horizontal elbow at the top with a screw cap. One unsrews the cap and can then insert the cassette discharge pipe into the elbow far enough to reach the vertical drop of the pipe.

It is actually very practical as there is negligible chance of splashing.

Unfortunately the fresh water tap at the same Aire is one of those oval ones with no thread so needs the rubber with screw-tightening adaptor and has a push-button activation, requiring multiple pushes.

Definitely get off the blue. It stinks, in my view worse than the effluent and causes problems with septic tanks. I just use bio wash liquid, any brand, but prefer Lidl Formil when I can get it. A fairly pleasant smell, at least until it has added poo, and helps to break things down. I usually try to avoid rinsing the cassette, unless there is a blockage to be cleared, as a bit of residue helps to build up the bugs that break down the poo.

cant get a photo, it was Italy about 6 years ago, walked what seemed like miles with the casette to find it was almost as high as me, no steps, had to retrace and bring John back with me to do the emptying. Really should have taken a phot, him emptying the casette is a very rare event.

What twit put a grill on the top of this one I used yesterday. Oh boy it was fun trying to get the logs down, you really don't want to ask how.
Now if I had brain in gear I would have emptied when I arrived and it would have been just slurry after driving.

It appears I am in the minority, of all the places I have visited, and all of the photos we have taken, none of them have include the bog dump points! I feel so silly! :D

I'll get my wife to get some and give them a go and try and avoid using Blue which I don't mind the smell of least without any added solid extra's lol
If you do this you need to get rid of any trace of the blue before it will work, so may be pretty bad the first few times. Just a warning

Montgenèvre, France. The altitude is about 1800m and this aire is used by skiers. The disposal point, which looks remarkably like a classic thunderbox :) is concrete with wood around it for insulation. No outside tap for rinsing as it would freeze.

Fontanellato, Italy. The flap opens with a foot operated pedal. Quite a good design apart from the lack of any water to rinse - the hose doesn't do anything. :)

This is on the aire at Bertry we are on at the moment. Everything you need in an area of one square meter. Free electricity, free water, waste and rubbish disposal and a grid. The aire is free for 4 or 5 vans in a nice quiet village next to a park and a (quiet!) railway line with the smallest station I have ever seen. The only problem is that the boulangerie 250 yards away has closed down and there is no bar close by (boo!).
