We want to visit Madrid for a couple of days and have spotted that several people have recommended this site.
Does anyone know if there is public transport nearby that goes to the city centre to save having to drive anywhere? Many thanks

I can remember the time it leaves but the town tourist train is parked on site and will take you into the town for free when it leaves in the morning.

If u decide to walk the first part along the road is a bit of a drag but once you reach the bridge over the river is a pleasant walk through the royal park into the town.

Whilst the site is along side the river and the park it is a bit remote and down down a country lane.

We have always walked so not sure about buses etc. Lots of taxi's in the town though.

The railway station is about 30 minutes walk and from there it is a single train costing around 8 euro's into Madrid.

Are you thinking the centre of Aranjuez which is a short walk or the centre of Madrid which is a fair few miles away? BUSBY.

We stayed there last month but did not go into Madrid, you can walk into the town okay but the train station is 2 mile from the site so would probably be a taxi jobby.

Aranjuez may be out of the city but it is still a notable place to visit with its Royal Palace and parade ground. I do believe it is where Philip II of Spain lived. Worthwhile checking it out.

We stayed there a few weeks ago. Very pleasant walk into town through the park, though as already mentioned the road to the bridge is a bit of a drag. We caught the train into Madrid, about 50mins, €10 return and very clean. Drops you off bang in the middle of Madrid. Again as said already Aranjuez is well worth a visit in itself. Campsite is ACSI, so only €18 or €19/night, can't remember which.

Sorry, couldn't resist it- lovely piece of music.

Butchered by a cuckoo clock. The wailing choir was to drown the sound of Rodrigo spinning in his grave.
I agree Brian - it was written for the guitar not for a mass woodwind and hurdy gurdy band! I just couldn't listen to the Rieu version! This is the version I have:

Booked in to Osuna early may, if you can wait that long. It's the closest to Madrid, short walk to metro which takes you to the centre.
We are looking to visit Madrid around the 10th of May so would be interested if you get there before us. Reading comments on CamperContact it sounds quite expensive and not brilliant facilities (apart from closeness of metro which is important) so we had rather thought we might go to Camping El Escorial instead. But of a hike to the bus but near some other nice towns as well. Let us know how you get on :)
