I am looking to import a Cathargo and would like recommendations of dealers and likely discounts they might offer off list price. Are there any advantages of new over used?
Thanks in anticipation of your replies.

Hi @Clarky Thanks for your reply. I’m looking for a dealer abroad so I can import.

Not long enough!
If you import i will be very surprised if you'll be able to get any cathargo dealer in uk to do anything under warranty.
As previously said, may have to go back to the dealer you bought it from.

I’d suggest using a German dealer as they offer Export Plates which includes basic insurance.
If you look on some Carthago dealers websites you may find that some specifically mention van exports - our N&B dealer did.

Once I had ordered mine I was told of a large multi-franchise dealer in Germany, I gave them the same spec as ordered from our UK dealer and it came out more or less the same!
What I couldn't work out was over here we pay VAT but from Germany you would have to pay an import duty, so all in all it seemed like a lot of hassle for not much gain.

You will be hard pushed to get much more than 10% off a Carthago but you will get it off all the extras as well. How much you save will depend on what exchange rate UK dealers have set with Carthago as they often set rates for 6 to 12 months in advance. If you have a LHD van to part ax you will get a far better deal in Belgium or Germany as they work on much lower margins. Traded our Hymer in Belgium got £12k more than UK dealers were offering.

@KandT There is no import duty you just pay the VAT in the country of registration, only additional charge is £100 to the VCA for your IVA certificate that you need to register.

You can purchase direct from the factory. I've been there and they have a good range of used as well as new. I have not imported from them but a friend did and he says he saved £20k on a well specified E Line. It will of course depend on the exchange rate. You would have to return to the factory for warranty work but I understand that others have found that some German retailers will also do the work, but don't take that as gospel.

Didn’t realise you could order/purchase direct from a factory

I have to admit I thought it unusual but I know it has been done and they do have the most impressive showroom and secondhand centre. They also have a superb stellplatz if you want to stay. Well worth it as just doing a factory visit is impressive.

People purchasing Carthago products in the UK cannot get descent back up so an import has no chance. Sorry.
Check out present owners problems with this once good product, not now I'm afraid.

MPG Gutersloh has been recommended by an English guy who currently lives in Germany and bought a new Carthago from them. Don't know if they specialise in the export market but most German dealers do.

I guess you can order direct from Carthago but it's unlikely you'll get any significant discount. Carthago HQ normally have a good stock of secondhand vehicles which are free of VAT providing they are over 6 months old and at least 6k on the clock (see DVLA rules for importing).

Third party insurance is available from Germany to UK. Once in UK, fully comp can be arranged on VIN number. Alternatively, use vehicle transporter from Germany to your home.
