Hi.

I just want to check I am inflating the tyres on my van to the right pressures.

It's a Niesmann-Bischoff Arto and the tyres are 225/75/16 Continental Vanco Campers.
The weight of the vehicle is 4 tonnes.

I'm pretty sure that I've read these should be inflated to 80psi but the tyre centre want to inflate to 55psi which I presume is what you do if you are installing them on the base vehicle (Ducato) before MH conversion.

Does anybody know what the correct inflation is for these?

Fully loaded our front axle weight is about 1780 and the rear (single axle) is 2260.

According to your chart that means the front should be inflated to 47psi and the rear to 72psi which seems like a massive difference.

Can that really be right?

Thats what the chart says and what would be expected, as load increases its not a straight progression otherwise you would be higher than that . 50% load increase does mean a 50% pressure increase .

Some people say that if you are using CP tyres you should inflate the rears to 80psi regardless of load.

Have you heard that?

The manufacturers tend to err on the idiotproofing side, so as MH tend to be loaded at max most of time as they have tried to build all bells and whistles on too small a chassis rating , they say max on tyres , as its safer than under inflation . I weighed the axles on my RV when loaded and run at 85psi rather than 105psi as its about 2 tonne below max . It makes quite a ride difference even with having full air suspension .

The picture I posted was an email from continental tyres for my van, the tyres you have are exactly the same so will be a Match for you, if your axle weights as you’ve mentioned are when your loaded with what you usually go away with then they are the correct pressures....

I have a 4250kg and run fronts at 50psi and rears at 75psi, it gives a much better ride and I still have the fillings in my teeth to show......:D2

Continental give very good guidance on pressures in their technical data booklet and I have followed this with good results over the years. Because I am changing to the next larger size tyre 225/70 15 112 (weight up rate) I've decided to go with Michelins as they are quite a bit cheaper for five tyres.
My enquiry with them regarding pressures resulted in the standard answer, 80psi rear, 65psi front regardless of the weights I provided.
On Continentals chart for the same size tyre at my weights it is 58psi rear, 47psi front.
I can't understand why Michelin won't provide different pressures by weight when Continental do.
My thinking is that the tyres must near identical in construction so I could just go by the Continental chart for pressures or buy Continental four seasons, though much more expensive.
