Newbie!
Can anyone help a newbie please? We have about half a dozen of the type of spotlights in the photo in our newly acquired motorhome. For reasons well documented on here, I'd like to change the bulbs (also pictured) to LEDs. Can this be a straight swap or do I need to remove the old lights and fit new ones? I'd sooner not lose what I already have.

Advice much appreciated, Jerry.

You should be able to get replacement lamps - they look the same as the reading lights ion my van. Take one out, google "12v LED lights" and see what you find.:thumb:

Edit - try a look here - Link Removed

Other brands are available - I have not used these people, but just to show

Halogen V LEDs?

How do your new LED bulbs compare with your originals? No need to get the brighter ones? Many thanks.

They are bright but harsh light unless you get warm white which is closer to a halogen lamp in output colour

It's very much personal preference. The best way to judge is to visit a show where the major suppliers like Aten, Ledbulbs4U &c have stands with the different types of bulbs set up so you can compare them.

I've had LEDs for some seven years now.
They weren't that good in the beginning - some burnt out - but have improved vastly since. I have now fitted a LED strip which just spliced into a 12v supply with an on/off switch.
I have also adapted some Ikea lights to fit using magnets to keep them in place.
Be creative!!

Hi There

we found some LED M16 warm white bulbs in Poundland and was a little sceptical at £1 each -so bought a couple to try -then went back for more-thry do the job -there is about 12 LED in the bulb they are bright enough for reading but they are warm white

give them a try -they replace the halogen bulb lightd directly -I had no issues with fitting them or requiring any polarity changes.

I havent seen them in other £ shops -just poundland

over a Year Yay................
I replaced the cheap spotlight hologen to LED in ours on the 1st week we had it & it provides a nice glow but the casing was not designed to take the LED so it got modded & forced ::bigsmile: with a little slicing with a blade I finished it off with some electrical tape to hold it together :ROFLMAO:

its the most used light ::bigsmile:

Just ordered me some exterior LED bulbs & some Interior bulbs festoon & bayonet type & hoping to clap eyes on some LED tubes before I order them

Many thanks. Where did you get your bulbs from?

The two spotlights were bookshelf lights from Ikea which I adapted. The strip led you can get almost anywhere and can be cut to size.
