When I was emptying the toilet cassette I noticed a pool of what seems to be clean water in the recess where the cassette is fitted. I can't see any obvious source of the water. Anyone have any similar experience?

Possible drain off from rinsing the cassette after use, or even a poor seal to trap. Check other pipewoork for leaks when flushing takes place.

If the seal has become hard, remove it and wash it in warm water to soften it a bit. When you put it back lubricate it with a little olive oil. If it is too far gone replacements are readily available.

i had a similar thing last year and it turned out to be a one way valve that is fitted on the flush supply up inside the actual toilet unit . it is plastic and had cracked during the winter lay up, the fresh water then found its way down into the cassette locker. the part was around £15 but it was a sod to get at in situ lots of cursing and swearing sorted in the end though !!! garry

How do I remove the seal?
You first need to remove the capping piece(s) which are screwed onto the cassette. That varies a little between models but will be covered in the Thetford manual. If you don't have a manual they are available as PDF downloads from Here.
