I thought I saw not too long ago a post on here from someone looking for fellow motorhomers to travel all the way to China, but I can't find it now.
The reason I was looking is because I sold a roof rack on Ebay to Steve Hotson, who has revealed that he arranges motorbike expeditions to China, and has quite a lot of experience with this. He takes care of the bureaucracy, of which there is a great deal, leaving the travellers to enjoy their little trip without that kind of hassle. I suggested he might look at doing motor home expeditions, and he was quite interested. So I told him that I would share this info with Funsters.
You can see his web site at http://www.motoexplorers.co.uk/index.html
He can now organise all of the required permits and customs procedures, guides etc to take any foreign vehicle into China. His route specialisation is; crossing Kazakhstan, into China at either Korghas border (Kazak) or Torugart Pass - Kyrgyzstan. They then organise either a 12 day route throughout western China, or a 30 day trans-China route down to Laos and then Thailand. All above is quite doable by camper nowadays - they do see the odd western camper truck out there, but not too many, just yet! Vehicles / campers etc can travel freely day by day, he just co-ordinates all of the services to facilitate the overland travel.
