So until now we've managed without an inverter as all the devices we need can be run off 12v (ipad, phones etc) Now though we may need to charge an e-bike and i can only see an inverter being the solution.

I was thinking a 300w true sinewave device of a good brand like Sterling as the e-bike's battery charger is 42v at 2.0 amps so this would be plenty, right ? I assume that cheaper devices will chew through more leccy to give me the required output.

Any thoughts ?

A 150W would be more than adequate. You don't need a pure sine wave.

Just what I use.

The only problem being that our pair of ebikes if fully discharged take a significant lump out of our single 110Ah. We have 100W solar. We just about cope as long as good sunshine.

But we don't drain them both every day.

Pure sinewave is a good guarantee that you can plug anything into it. My ASUS tablet does not have a 12V solution for a proper charge because it needs 15V off the mains charger.

We were advised to get a pure sine wave inverter for our electric bikes by someone in the trade who we trust .... is this any good?

Thanks for the feedback on that and I wondered how much they would take out of the battery, hum I feel the need for some solar:roflmto:

In case anyone is wondering?
The original pm never arrived but the others mentioned here were all received and replied to. Neill has bought the 350 watt pure sine Sterling subject to inspection etc.
A true bargain :thumb:

Sticking with the OP's post on an inverter for charging bike batteries, does it have to be a pure sine wave inverter, or will a modified sine wave inverter do the job, without damaging the Li-ion batteries?

Cheers,

Jock.

Any comments on the above for doing this????

Sounds like it's not really required.

Am I correct in assuming that as the batteries are being charged by a transformer then the input quality is less sensitive ?

I believe that to be the case.
I Charge my wife`s mob scooter from an inverter running the scooter battery charger, when the campervan engine is running.

ok guys: I know nothing about electricity so please bear that in mind. Here's my question: your help is appreciated.

I have a 150W solar panel on my motorhome roof, this charges my leisure battery. The motorhome is based in Greece so there is no shortage of sun.

My main concern is my ebike. I have one bike only, 36v 16AH battery and I will charge is when needed. I want to buy an inverter that will 100% be compatible with this use. I don't want to be dependent on any campsites or any people for plug ins. I have just bought a 300w inverter but reading some of the comments I am starting to think it may not be good enough to charge the bike. Could anyone recommend an inverter that should cope with most things.

I also have a drone that will be key to my work filming in Greece. The batteries are powerextra batteries. 15.2v 4480mAH LiPo batteries.

Look at Victron inverters they do both types. Have never had a problem with mine. They also do solar charger regulators mppt. Also very good.

Berniesbargreece. We charge up our 36v E-Bike lithium batteries off our 300w modified sine wave inverter, without any problems. (y)
The supplied charger has a maximium output of 2A. I checked with the bike supplier first, before charging via the inverter, if the two were compatible.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
