Good morning all,
We are staying at the Walton on Thames C&CC site. We're here specifically for Kingston Uni open day tomorrow, with our youngest son. I really fancy taking a visit to Richmond Park, having visited myself while I was waiting for my son when he attended his Uni interview a few weeks ago. Have any of you taken your MHs into the park before? I did see one driving through on my previous visit, but I would hate to persuade Bernie to do this, only to get turned away or worse! We are low emission compliant by the way.

I use Bushy Park, (also a Royal Park with deer) regularly and Ive seen smallish coachbuilts (6-6.5 metres?) parked there on occasions.
The car park I'm referring to specifically is the one next to the Diana Fountain lake. There are no marked spaces and it's very large.
The other areas such as the Pheasantry car park are much smaller and should be avoided.

This park is also closer to Kingston.

edit: the phone numbers are:
Richmond
0300 061 2200
Bushy 0300 061 2250

further edit: you can get a bus no. 461 from Walton to Kingston and then a 371 to Richmond if you decide against the MH.

The are some unique bye laws relating to Richmond Park, see here: Broken Link Removed

Not sure about MHs but people have been fined for cycling on the wrong bit.

There are various restrictions in the Royal Parks which operate at different times.

Your best bet is to contact them - details Broken Link Removed and Broken Link Removed - for specific advice.

We're probably 8m long, but I noticed that the car park::bigsmile: I used in richmond park didn't have marked bays either. Just going to have a look at Bushy Park on the Royal Parks website, thanks!

Never thought about taking the motorhome into Richmond park, I live 5mins from it and go there all the time, Isabella Gardens is a park within the park and is nice to walk round. Here's some pics taken last weekend :thumb: me and the little one.

Really grateful for all the advice. Imagine we'll be regular visitors over the next 3 years so all very handy for now as well as the future. I'd never been into any of the Royal Parks until a few weeks ago, never been that keen on London, a country girl at heart, but I loved Richmond Park. Bushy Park will be on our list of must sees too. I've just left a message on the Park's answer phone asking for a callback and I'll update this post with their answer. ::bigsmile:

It's Walton on Thames Caravan and camping club site, members only. Our Satnav indicated that our route would take us into restricted area, hut we didn't pass any road signs indicating we'd entered low emission zone and the club site states not in low emission area. No shower or toilet block on site, but MH service point. You have to travel down a single track road to get to it, absolutely no possibility of even 2 small cars passing, so they request no arrivals in the morning.

richmond park

The isabella has a good cafe and smashing gardens to walk around. On its north side between richmond and roehampton gates is a superb panoramic view over London and Canary wharf. Best seen from driving .... passenger seats looking left.

Slightly OT, but I was pulled up by a warden for driving our school minibus down Birdcage Walk. He informed me that we needed a permit to take anything with more that 8 seats (I think - quite a while ago) into Royal Parks.

So beware (especially if you have a PVC?) - Gordon

Parked at the moment at the back of the Roehampton Gate car park. Just cooked and eaten a very late breakfast and we're now about to buy some cake from the cafe for our cup of tea. We will then meander round and try to park at the Isabella plantation. ::bigsmile:

Turn left out your car park and drive past the next right turn and carry on up the big hill then park in car park on your left, walk back across road and head down to Isabella Plantations  Enjoy.

I used to have a girlfriend who was a student in Kingston.

Nice place to be with some cracking pubs on the river for your son to while away the hours between study:thumb:

Bushey park is great too it has a number of parking places with a tearoom and plenty of walks. I've been in the camper many times. Parking is free but sometimes difficult to find a space.:thumb:

Also if you manage to park up in Bushy Park you could walk to through Hampton Court Palace into Home Park (Hampton Court Park). This is a very quiet park and you never see that many people using it. It's a lovely view along Long Water to the Palace and every so often fountains spring up at the very far end (away from Palace). There are exits which lead you onto Thames tow path so very easy to do a circular walk back to Bushy Park.

I've got an idea that the parking at Isabella is disabled only.
