My Dad has a towbar fitted on a steel bar which he is thinking of removing in order to improve his pay load. Can anyone take a guess at what the this bar might weigh before he decides to have it removed..

many thanks

Steve

Only since 2012, but I towed for many years
It will weigh as much as a piece of string is long. Hope this helps.:winky:

Still only a year after many years camping
I'd also go with about 25kg if I remember when I fitted ours. It wasn't all that heavy, but then again not that light. I guess I'm not helping much!:ROFLMAO:

I removed a towtal tow bar from my van. It must have weighed 40-50kg.
I could not believe how heavy it was when I tried to move it.
Certainly improved my payload :thumb:

I had the towbar removed from my van a couple of years ago. It was a substantial box section cross bar with flat steel 'arms' that bolted to the chassis extensions on either side. When I went to collect the van my 'mates' at the local HGV garage, who look after it for me, said 'your towbar is over there against the wall'. Nearly bu**ered myself trying to lift it into the van's garage to take home. Must be well over 30 kg.

as grasscutter and jeanluc, but mine was home made.

60mm square box section same width as chassis, two shorter bits to make the bar rearwards and two 300mm x 220mm x 10mm steel plates to bolt to chassis.

Big bo##ocks and bulging eyes trying to lift it into place laid on my back. :Eeek:

No idea what it weighed but i aint a weedy runt and i struggled......until i used a pair of scissor jacks to lift it into place :thumb:
