We are off to Normandy beaches on 23 August for a week. We are taking our dog with us so we need a vets to get back in uk.is there a web site for vets abroad. Cheers

We have used the Vet practice several times in Rue near Le Crotoy on the Somme. In fact we were there last Thursday. Cost was 25€ and we supplied our own worming tablet. Both Vets in the practice speak excellent English.

Look our for signs like the attached, whilst you are out and about, in an area convenient for your visit to the vet 24 - 120 hours before checking in for return crossing. Many do not require an appointment but opening hours are variable so for peace of mind research is good. If you are having trouble spotting vets then putting vet in the places search of a sat nav should yield results and of course a drop in at Tourist Info can yield a recommendation and a map. There are lots of vets. We have stopped panicking now Jane

and be aware that just as in england , some vets can be very adapt at making the most out of a bad situation ! last year my other half was taken ill while on a campsite in dunkirk 4 days before our tunnel crossing home. so all our plans of getting our dogs passport sorted early and out of the way went out the window.she felt a little better after a few days but this then left me struggling to find a vet right on the deadline if we were to keep our crossing. the campsite receptionist agreed to phone a a local vet and explain our predicament and the need for a swift appt and we were duly booked in for later that day. this left us with no wriggle room but we had no option and they knew it .hence we were charged the rip off price of 70 euros !! my questioning of the cost brought a shrug of the shoulders and a justification of "emergency is it not monsieur" .

We use Drontal + for up to a 10kg dog. The Vet at Rue is very adept at fingers down the throat and doesn't seem to think disguising the tablet in a treat (boiled ham) is necessary. It usually saves you about 6€ off the final bill if you take you're own. However, you must ensure if you're going away for a few months, that the tablet is still 'in date' when you eventually visit a Vet.

In addition, theoretically, the Vet is supposed to examine the dog, but in our experience at Vets we have visited in Holland, Belgium and France, this rarely happens and we have usually been in and out within five minutes. :thumb:

Never tried boiled ham but squishy camembert is great for disguising the tablets.
And we can recommend the vet at La Mailleraye sue Seine....€37 for three border terriers, including the tablets.
