Hi Jim and funsters. For the last few weeks been having problems whilst on fun. Have not been able to stay on to long as the pages on threads keep freezing half the page turn a light blue with squares over it and a little box comes up with a little computer face saying fun is not responding. What techi stuff do i need to do to get it working for us?

My PC was randomly freezing. I have it set to load essential updates automatically but this did not include graphics driver. There was an nVidia update available which I loaded and it has been fine since.

So worth checking updates first. If that doesn't work, do the opposite and load an earlier restore point.

I have suffered this too and it got so bad I had to switch to ipad but then that got bad too.
I figured my broadband had been hacked so changed my router password and been OK last few days since.

Try using another browser to see if that cures the problem. I have big problems using MHF with Google. I now have to use Firefox.

Does it freeze on other sites? I doubt it is related to MHF, probably just coincidence.

I found FUN was the most troublesome out of all the sites I visit, perhaps shows up more if your bandwidth is being stolen.
I'm on windoze 7 and google chrome. Fine since changing my router password.

Presumably you have a wireless broadband router? just change the password, costs nothing to try. If you've forgotten you should have an I.P. address for your router that you type into your address bar, this gives you access to change the settings. After changing and saving the password you will of course have to log in again with the new one.

In addition mine only did it in the evening as though the culprit had just got home and started streaming at my expense. It was always ok through the day.

We have a similar problem with "fun" from time to time. When we try to reply to a post, it takes ages for fun to respond or load up. Usually we get a message saying that the website is taking too long to respond:Sad: Possibly "high useage" on MHfun at peak times, between 6 - 8pm, not sure.
But we think that the problem is down to MHfun, because it is not happening on other sites.

Hi Kath sorry you are having problems. If you type that error message into google you will see from the thousands of results that this is a bug with Chrome, rather than with Fun. There are several fixes available, I'll take a lurther look tomorrow, for I'm a bit knackered right now, its way past my bedtime:thumb:

I use Chrome , but it does need regular cleaning, if not it gets slow and can lead to the problem you describe..

If you don't know how, then here are step by step guides from Google..

Delete Browsing history https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95537?hl=en-GB

Clear the cache https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95582?hl=en-GB&ref_topic=3434352

After doing that I would also suggest a general spring clean using CCleaner ..

Broken Link Removed

its' a free utility I've been using for donkeys years .. it's completely safe..

Even if chrome has a problem why would it only target pages of FUN ? mine has been OK on all other web pages. :Eeek:
Although I am getting issues with Outlook loading slow or freezing

Andy, I suspect there is some bad interaction between Google adverts and Chrome. When mine freezes there are no adverts displayed in the right hand pane. Other sites don't have as many adverts in one pane. Just a guess.

I'm using google chrome ad blocker extension. When turned on it is actually only blocking 1 ad (the one below Jims shop that keeps changing) but I'm not getting freezing unless I unblock it.

Perhaps because Fun is your most used web site.. ?

just a theory .. but as I understand it, every time you load a web page the browser cache's it in a temporary store to reduce bandwidth usage and server load, .. but eventually the cache is soo big it takes longer and longer to 'read' it, than download a fresh page.. hence why I suggested clearing the browser cache..

no matter what browser, they all suffer from this.. some can be set to clear the cache after each browsing session..
