Greetings,

Yet another question comes off the conveyer belt from this newbie motorhomer.

On the drivers door jamb of our 2007 Hobby 650Ec is a sticker, in both Italian and French (which to me would indicate that it was put on by the manufacturer, Fiat) to state that the tyres, which are Michelin Camping XC 215/70R15C, should be inflated to 5.5 bar or 79.5 lb sq. inch to both the front and rear.

However, in the user manual accompanying the vehicle, the data states that the same tyres fitted should be inflated to 4.5 bar to the front and 5.5 bar to the rear.

Simple Question, which I know could result in different answers, which one is right.

Regards

That sounds like the maximum pressure they should be inflated to.

I believe Hercules has it in one, my van also has 5.5bar or 79.5 all round.

I ran it like that for a few weeks and then reduced it down to 72 front 68 rear and the ride improved considerably.

I'm in a geist Silver Spirit with the 3.0 litre lump and the larger wheels 16 inch I think.

Fuel consumption improved marginally too.

I have a similar problem.
But if I look in the handbook it gives me 2 sets of pressures for my van.
I've changed mine to the lower pressure and the ride is much more comfortable with, for me, no noticeable loss of stability

I emailed Michelin and they gave me different pressures based on my max axle weights.
it changed the ride in the van considerably.

Greetings Again,

Thanks Guys, seems to be a consensus that a less inflated tyre equals a more 'comfy' ride, which I would have expected.

I was surprised to read Popeyes comments that on deflating his tyres from the Max that he thought he got better economy. I always thought that the higher the pressure, the less rolling resistance, but there you go.

I'll take some air out now having struggled to get it in up to 5.5. The connector kept blowing itself off the valve!!!:Eeek:

See my thread and the advice from Michelin. Suggested 56 front and 80 rear - whereas both axles, with full load, 'weighed' the same. Seems they will always suggest you run rear at max, whatever the axle weight.
