We stayed overnight at a Aires at Chamery last October, co-ords 49.17404, 3.95397
The hills surrounding the village are covered with vineyards and in Oct they were still picking the grape harvest. Free to park, 2 euros for water, which was still on when we were there.

We stayed on the aire by the youth hostel back in 2012. Not many parking spaces but you can get water and dump waste. Its walking distance to the lovely cathedral.

PS Okay, I read the OP too quickly and thought it said Reims! (embarrassed)

GPS COORDS: N49.24895 E04.02131
DIRECTIONS: Exit A4 @ "Reims Centre"(direction Congrès) & take a left turn at the traffic light and follow signs "Epernay" on Charles De Gaulle bridge. CIS/ AIRE is situated under the RIGHT side of the bridge.
SITE DESCRIPTIONThe aire is in the small tarmac parking area with marked spaces & some shade under trees, next to the CIS Youth Hostel in the city & behind the theatre "La Comedie". A secure location backing onto a small park area & accessed by security barrier, with toilets in the hostel (Open 08.00 -- 22.00) as well as a restaurant. The aire is situated 100m from the River Vesle & about 1km from the cathedral /city centre but there are shops /services nearby. A good artisanal service point with platform drainage. An interesting city with a magnificent cathedral -- one of four UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city.
REVIEW:
2007 A very good location for visiting Reims, a short walk over the river to the Cathedral & the centre of city. Quite secure but not very quiet -- traffic noise from the adjacent A4 autoroute. Access to the parking is via an automatic barrier for which you need a 4 digit code (available from CIS reception) -- you can ring up beforehand (depending on your French) for the code as parking outside can be awkward (as we found out). Toilets & cafeteria in the hostel plus cycle hire available.

SITE DESCRIPTION: The Aire here is in a medium sized gravel car park, next to the village hall on the edge of the small village & overlooking farmland. Little shade nut a pleasant, peaceful location. Unfortunately there are no shops in the village, but there is possibly farm produce available locally. There is a nice 12th Cent Church to visit & the village is on the 'Champagne Route'. The AireServices service point is easy to access with a long drainage channel.
REVIEW

CAMPING CAR MAGAZINE REVIEWED & RECOMMENDED 02/07: "In a pleasing green location, this is a super aire with quiet parking & easy to use services".
2007 A quiet Aire in an even quieter village; well looked after & clean. Friendly little village with good walks through the vineyards.

DIRECTIONS: Take N44 SOUTH from REIMS then bear left onto D326 to VAL-DE VESLE. Follow signs for the campsite
SITE DESCRIPTION: A pleasant rural, but basic Municipal Campsite located near to the Vesle River. There are few amenities here -- only a small children's playground and the opportunity to fish in the adjacent river. The pitches are level & grassy with ample shade from the mature trees on site -- their size is variable as they are not marked and obviously depends on the number of people staying here. 8A electric points are spaced around the site & a long lead may be required in places. The sanitary facilities are quite new & appear to be regularly serviced.
REVIEW
2007 This quiet little place is good for a short stay (not much here for a long one), the staff are very friendly & helpful and the excellent showers/ toilets are nice & clean.
I'd recommend you arrive early in high season as the pitches are not marked out & the site can get quite crowded (especially if you get some inconsiderate parking).
There's no shop on site, there is a small grocers in the village. Quite a useful location for visiting Reims.

DIRECTIONS: On N44 SOUTH, by-pass CHALONS-EN-CHAMPAGNE & exit for ST MEMMIE. Follow 'CAMPING' signs.
SITE DESCRIPTION: A medium sized Municipal Campsite on the southern outskirts of Chalons close to both the A4 & A26 motorways -- situated in a residential area of the town.
Pitches are of a reasonable size separated by hedges, most having electric, with water taps nearby & some with drainage -- 2/3rds are on gravel, the rest on grass -- all being level. The 2 sanitary blocks are well serviced & have laundry facilities.
The facilities on site are limited to a small playground, tennis courts, mini golf, games & TV rooms. No shop here but bread can be ordered at reception -- there is also a takeaway opposite here.
REVIEW
2006 Personally, I thought this was one of the better Municipal campsites that we have stayed at -- it's well run & cared for with clean but slightly dated facilities + friendly staff. There is no shop but there are some within a short walk. Pitches are well laid out on gravel hard standings & fully serviced.
The site is set in a larger park with a lake (fine for angling), tennis courts & crazy golf. It's a good site for a stopover and can be busy at peak times, so I'd advise arriving early.
2007 A good friendly site with large pitches, all hedged + electric, water & waste. Site is positioned next to a large park with a lake & tennis courts. There's a small café on site (only July & Aug I think) which stays open quite late, only a restricted menu but quite nice & cheap.
This site is handy for a night stop on the way South, but not a great deal of amenities for a longer stay. Well recommended.
