I was at the dealer yesterday, chatting away, he mentioned that he had stocked up on a pump part £8.99 ready for in his words "the deluge of MH owners who will be calling after the temp drops"

I think it called a water filter, it's fitted to the the water pump, it's a plastic dome and he said that what happens is a small amount of condensation inside it, freezes and cracks the plastic.

He suggested removing it (simply screws off) and putting it in the sink so when you next come to use the van you don't forget it's off. Some people just loosen it, but you have to remember to tighten it up.

Thought I'd share this info with you all.

Strangely since buying our van in November we've only had one night of frost. I have a feeling feb/march may be chilly!

Yes we were drained down too, but there was a little water still in it. Dealer said its common.

Anyone used a Floe to drain down? Are they worth it?

Yup changed loads of these, "intake grit filter" but it only applies to diaphragm pumps not submersibles and not all diaphragm pumps have them either. Condensation is not the issue, its water left in the system, even if you drain down the chances are some water will be left in this filter which can be found on the inlet side of the water pump. When it freezes it splits the filter case and the rest is history.

I got caught out like this, now when I know I am parking up in the winter I drain down before leaving and leave the all taps open and the drain valve, the journey home gets rid of the last of the water lurking in the pipes & pump

Thanks for that big 1, I haven't worked out how to link in threads from my iPad yet.

Just thought it was worth posting because I'd not seen anything about this before. Course it could be old news for old hands:thumb:

To link on your iPad just tap the up arrow in a square box on the top left hand side of the iPad then bookmark for later use. :thumb:

I always used one in my caravan with great success but didn't know they were available for Motorhomes
Definitely worth the money :thumb:

Hi not sure that's what I meant.

How do I post a link to an item like the big 1 did in a post?

I've drained down, blown thro the taps left everything open,

and

Carved up an old duvez and rapped pieces around the Pump and the Trauma Heater It worked last year.
I also have a fan heater on a time switch that switches on twice a day for an hour:Smile:
