RV Versus European (1 Viewer)

Another post about the shuttle has prompted a very valid question
Are American Rvs More Economical than the European counter parts ?
because of the amount of fuel used by the Space Shuttle and its payload
the question has to be asked given that the size is normally twice that of a European and the payload 3 to 4 times greater, fuel consumption about double
who is moving their mass at the least expense ???? or indeed are they equal
This is not intended to start a Euro v RV war, so lets not have one

And the Respective engine sizes are?Initially you'd tend to think differently.

So are the RV engines more fuel efficient size for size, and , if so, why?

Newmar 7.5 Ford V8

Kontiki 2.5TD Talbot

RV more efficient size for size because they pull/carry a BIGGER load. IMH&HO.

OK Then....Going on from that... you are advocating a larger engine that is...theoretically...less stressed in use so should last longer?

Not saying that a turbo diesel isn't a strong engine but does it have to be driven harder to achieve the same result.

Geo mentions the European Counterpart.This would require a direct comparison size for size to get a fair comparison?

what i mean is the average RV and the average European Motor home
when i was puzzling over this what came to mind was
Is it cheaper on fuel to send 30 tons of baked beans on one lorry or use 60 escort vans
not counting the extra road tax, insurance or the other 59 drivers you would require
I'm sure you get my point, my thoughts are it either breaks even or the RVs in real terms are more economical, in real terms you do pay a premium for all the extra space and payload your not using, but the basic questions remains Are average RVs more economical than average Europeans

If you were to consume the 30 tons of Baked beans you wouldn't need to worry about the fuel Geo.....you'd generate your own propulsion . The RV might move a bit slower though in view of the extra weight

The Cummins 5.9l ISL diesel engine develops 350bhp - 59bhp per litre. The latest 3.0l Fiat engine is 157bhp - 52bhp per litre.
Another win for the RV in the Motorhomefun Top Trumps.

In that example using one truck makes sense but what if you've only .5 ton to ship? Would a small van fully loaded be more economical than the large vehicle running nearly empty? Oh, I've just read the rest of your post and that's what you said

Talbot weighs about a third less but does 3 times as much to the gallon so surely its about even?

if your into working it out, what % of the trip is in the desert and what price per mile is Camel transport,
I'm trying to work out wether to send the beans on ahead or not:thumb:

so the RV is 77,350 and the Talbot is 81,600. So close, but the Talbot wins. But not by much.
