I run a Kountrylite by Calder, currently fitted from new with Goodyear ST205/75R15 tyres (marked "TRAILER SERVICE ONLY") which will soon need to be replaced due to age, not wear.
Short of going back to the dealer, I'm finding it impossible to find this size and type of tyre for sale in the UK.
I could buy them on line from an American tyre specialist and have them shipped in...........no doubt at ridiculous cost and import duty!...........but the American dealers I've "spoken" to on-line are advising against this as it is likely that the tyres will be impounded by UK customs as they are not "E" marked for use in europe.

I've tried our friend Brian and a couple of UK based American car parts specialists but with no joy.

Any ideas please and, purely as a matter of interest, what tyres are fitted to the Celtic Ramblers?

I agree. BUT..........I shouldn't have to really should I ? Given what I've found out so far (which is 2/3rds of b*gger all!) it's likely that I'll have to but I dont believe its right that I should be tied down like that. I should be able to get best price from 2 or 3 places. When all said and done, the rig was built specifically for the UK market. I should be able to get tyres for it.

If you remember from when you first bought your 5'er we had contact about the disintegration of the tyres on my Calder leisure unit which was supplied with some cheap and nasty far eastern tyres and not the usual Goodyear.

I subsequently replaced all mine over a period of a few months with European sizes, because of the timescale and location they are of different makes.

Mine are steel rims, I think yours will be allly but that should not make any difference.

I have 205/70R15C 106/104 which although a smaller profile have a higher load rating than the originals.

I have 1 Barum, bought in France
1 Michelin bought in Spain
2 Continental bought in UK

I run these at 4.2 bar and have done around 15000 miles with the trailer since without problem

106/104 is 950/900 kilo

If you remember................

Thanks matee. Good info. I did actually find a tyre which, theoretically, would be OK but 2 things concerned me...........
1. It's max load capacity was nearly TWICE that of my Goodyear Marathons.
2. The profile, as yours, was /70 not /75

What worries me is that given the load range and the lower profile (slightly admittedly) would the sidewalls be so stiff that it shook 7 bells out of my pride & joy?

Thoughts please?:thumb:

To be honest we didn't have the original tyres on long enough for us to make any judgement on the difference in ride. Mine run at 4.2 as opposed to the 3.5(from memory) of the originals but we have had no handling problems and if the normal care is taken when moving we have had no problems with damages inside.

Edit: just a thought but are you sure about the load rating on the tyres that you have located, I have seen on some tables the loads are quoted per axle and not per tyre.

Yep, found those myself but given the description of the tyre and that fact that I cant find any load rating for them, Im sceptical that they'll be suitable for the considerable load of a 5ver.

edit load rate 97........which is 730kg max. Mine are 1820LBS (827kg)

These seem to meet the load requirement.

Hi Zaskar
I have a 26RK and fortunately haven't had to look for tyres yet. I am at Cabopino and have had a look at 2 Celtic Ramblers that are here. One is a new one and is fitted with Runway Enduro 616, 215/75r16c. Enduro do make a tyre our size. The other Rambler has Avon Avanza AVG.
