Does any one know if a cover note is enough for French Police or do they require Insurance Certificate along with other documents.
Its just that I have bought a small bike to get around locally rather than use van but I go tomorrow and all I have is the cover note.

We took Green card from insurance comp for ours. I thought original insurance docs only for this country and Green cards for when abroad.

hi Tina,

all UK insurance certs are good for EU countries.:thumb:
a green card is needed for a very few but more unusual locations, albania ect.
a lot of companies will issue one but at a price.
same applies for driving licences.

may be worth ringing the RAC or green flag.
i'm sure it must be the original certificate, no copies ect.
but i wouldnt think the french plod would know the difference.
if you just bought the bike is the logbook in your name?
have you sent it in yet?
have you got it back yet?.
if its not in your name you'll need a letter from the previous owner confirming you have permission to use it. we all know that aint gonna happen so that is a real stumbling block as you must carry the logbook with you.

Thank's John, I was aware of the paper work needs, ie Registration docks along with MOT etc. Just that cover note came next day still waiting for actual docs, However as you said if registration doesnt arrive today its all dreams any way.
Travel South tomorrow, then catch Ferry out of Dover on Friday 0400 hrs.
