Fitting a b2b (1 Viewer)

Hi All

I have just fitted a 2kw inverter to our van and am now looking to add a b2b just to help replace some of the used power.I know the inverter is capable of about a draw of 160 amps on full power, this will only be used for a 1600w hair dryer, I am not looking to charge at this rate but thought to try for about 80 amps.

Having looked at a couple ie stirling and ctek the later seems to be a very straight forward fit and relatively cheap as I say it is only to help with the time the drier is being used.

B2B charger will more or less charge at your alternators output....
100a output...100amp charge...
150a output...150amp charge.

B2B fools the alternator into giving its all.

Yes I know that is the idea and I will find out the max output of the alternator this is a Fiat x250 3.0ltr I had a quick look but as it is an A class
I cant even see it. Also as some one surggested.
As I said in my post I only want to draw between 80-100 amps from the alternator/battery.

could be wrong but I think the standard alternator is rated at 140amps.

A B2B is an intelligent 4 step digital charger. It is for charging batteries alone. There is nothing to be gained by using it, engine running to run a hairdryer. In fact it will REDUCE the current available to the inverter. The biggest B2B currently is 100 Amps.
If running the engine whilst drying hair is your goal, then simply link your starter and leisure batteries with a length of 35mm cable and battery cutoff switch.

Much cheaper and you will get all the required current you need for the hairdryer.

If you wish to run the hairdryer without the engine running and recharge later, a good B2B is the way forward. I would go for Sterling though.:thumb:

I have 2x 110 liesure and find that runs the inverter/hair drier fine as you say I want to replace used battery power that bit quicker. I think I read one of your posts on a b2b problem.

I would think about a CTEK D250S Dual and Smartpass.

Together they charge at up to 100a plus it replaces the any solar controller you may have (has a built in "smart" solar controller eg multi stage charging from solar panels as well). Some people have had conflicts using the sterling unit and a separate solar controller.

It also switches the solar over and charges your starter battery when the leisure batteries are full.

gave up beating the drum when everyone told me a) it wont work and b) I would blow up in a ball of flames. 2 years later, it still works and nikki has clean dry straightened hair. :thumb:

But if they are that good why don't the motorhome manufacturers fit them?

Why not run the engine to charge the battery and use the heater vents to dry the hair?

On our Bailey we had a Sterling 50amp b to b charger fitted by VanBitz. The alternator output on the X250 base is 140amps, and together with the Webasto dsl heater installed at the same time, all works well.
