Possible February Fun Get Together In The Algarve, Portugal. (1 Viewer)

Our Blessed Leader is no longer in a position to organise a meet in Portugal in February.

Quite a few Funsters had shown an interest...

I have a possible alternative plan.

I know of a location in Praia de Rocha, Portimao where a get together might interest some Funsters.

The place in my mind is not a fully fledged campsite in so much as it does not have a shower/toilet block nor electricity but it does have the following advantages...

1. Lots of space on different surfaces, tarmac, gravel or gravel/grass mix.

2. Water.

3. Cassette emptying.

4. Dog friendly.

5. Very close to huge beach and marina.

6. Close to shops, restaurants and bars.

7. A small onsite bar/snack bar/restaurant.

8. Free internet (speed variable).

9. Very affordable. (€2.50 per day, €2 for 110 litres of water).

10. A short drive to supermarkets, GPL and Burger Ranch.


If Funsters are interested maybe those in the area could choose a week/weekend (in Feb?) and meet up to discuss Fun stuff and hang out.

What do people think?

If enough people are in to it, I could approach the powers to be and see if they would allow us a space where we could be "all together".

It looks as though we already have 6 vans so a "get together" looks ON.

Well done JJ looks OK to us we will be leaving Zahora end of Jan heading to Portugal and would defo like to join you.

We could be interested possibly from mid Feb - on returning from Maroc but can't commit fully until we know exactly when we will be crossing back across the Straits.

As I see it Funsters there is no need to "commit" to anything...

This place has so much room you don't get designated pitches or anything like that.

Pay for a night or two as you enter (receipt is written out with your reg no) and in you go and park wherever you want/can.

People can come or go as they please or just pop in from other, proper sites for a visit...

Once we choose a starting week I will make sure I am on "site" to help with queries ect... laundrette, footy bars, nice Chinese restaurant or more affordable buffet style one, €5.50 all day English breakfasts, Chinese shops, proper off site places for anyone who wants to save the €2.50 daily charge and so on...

Just parked up at Silves an hour ago and might go to Praia de Rocha for Christmas...

Haven't decided yet... I'm motorhoming...

I've asked hubby what he thinks and have had a shuftie at a suitable route to get to you, but at over 1500 miles each way and about £650 in fuel (plus crossing etc costs), unfortunately it's a no-no for now.

I have taken a few piccies of the Praia de Rocha parking/camping place today...

Fingers crossed I can post them ok...

First the "reception" (hut at entrance) with the Bus Bar/Snack Bar in view.

Then a shot of the adjacent marina. You can see these vans in view are on the "tarmac" section.

Right now, being Chrismas/New Year, the place is much busier than it will be in February.

I think I will be here around Feb 3.

If several of us gather we can get ourselves a little area... raise the Funster Flag... and declare UDI.

Anyone staying on sites with more facilities in the area can still pop in and visit...

Maybe a "through flow" of Funsters will happen... maybe not.

If not I will continue to enjoy the peace and quiet as I am right now.
