Chamonix to the Med (1 Viewer)

kim and I will be taking our 2nd. month long tour next June and I am rough planning already.
We intend to head straight down to Chamonix and stay 2 or 3 nights probably staying at Camping Mer de Glace.
We need some help on a nice route through the alps. Should we use the Mont Blanc Tunnel and down through Italy? Or is it possible to use the motorhome across on the SS26/N90.
Any help and advise most welcome - like to use Tolls as little as possible.

We stayed on the Aire at Chamonix in August. We then headed down to the Med by the following route;

Chamonix - Albertville - Grenoble - Gap - Digne Les Bains - Grasse then Cote d'Azur.

We followed the Route Napoleon from Grenoble to Grasse.

It was a nice varied route with a mixture of mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers and very pleasant scenery all the way. Lots of places to stop overnight along the way and there are places. No tolls by the way....

We made a note of several places to visit on another trip if we had more time as we had a deadline to meet up with someone in Ramatuelle on the south coast.

Callum's route is good but there are a variety of options when you get past Grenoble depending on where you eventually want to end up.

Aosta valley is great and again there the alternative routes when you get to the Turin area, but the cost of taking a m/h through the Mt Blanc tunnel is pretty expensive these days.

We took the following somewhat circuitous route based roughly on La Route des Grandes Alpes and it provided stunning scenery in September passing over some of the highest peaks and towns. It will stay in your memory bank:
Albertivile
Moutiers
Bourg-Saint-Maurice
Lanslebourg-Mont-Cenis
Bramans (Val d’Ambin Municipal Site)
We then ventured into Italy via Susa rather than going through Modane
Then to Briancon (there’s a Municipal Site here)
Savines-le Lac (there’s an Aire in town)
Barcelonnette (lovely little site in an Orchard back of houses in town there’s also an Aire)
Jaussiers and via Col de la Bonette and Cime de la Bonette at 2,802 metres to Saint-Etienne-de-Tinee (an Aire)
Delightful town of Saint Martin Vesubie - (Camping à la Ferme Saint-Joseph)
Roquebillière to la Bollène-Vesubie and to turn onto the D70 to Col de Turini at 1,604 metres check the Hotel Les Trois Vallees if you have an interest in motoring (Monte Carlo Rally)
Sospel worth a visit (Municipal Camping)
Col de Castillon, a modest 706 metres and down to Menton

We didn't stay at all the places listed so I can't vouch for them.

We took around 10 days but stopped 2 or 3 nights at two of the places.

I have it written up as chapters which would have gone in the last book (Just One Cornetto) but finally edited it all out. I can include some photos with the text - the scenery is dramatic.

You have to visit the Aiguile di Midi before you die.

Then down to the med, past all the paddy fields, another of life's essentials. Call in at Maggiore, the quiet but beautiful lake.
