took my autotrail apache on motorway for first time and was pulled back sucked in and blown out by wagons overtaking it has new camper tyres all round but not loaded yet.is this normal or have i been spoilt by driving my rv for years ?

We used to notice it a bit with the Autoquest but not with the Burstner. Big difference seems to be that the Autoquest was taller with a Luton.

Never noticed in mine. One way to stop em overtaking is get into the middle lane and stay there, that should stop em .

Take care at corners and roundabouts as well till your used to it.....
The van will no doubt be faster than your RV, You have a lot of body there for the size of cab and chassis...

Very annoying when your comfortably passing a large truck and just as you get level at the front, you get "sucked" and it's hard to break away. oh:

Never suffered from this since we've had the Hymer but our Damon Rv was terrifying until we fitted airbags on the rear axle after that it was nearly as good as the Hymer but not quite.

Maybe you have a long overhang, that can cause it to sway around pretty bad that was the issue with our Damon. Or is it on a Merc chasis ? because you often read about them needing airbags to increase stability.

Happened with my Eldiss but not my Burstner .... (but I still do miss my Eldiss on occasions :Sad. I always thought it was something to do with the air going under the overhead cam.

Key statement, "not loaded yet", once you get some weight in it it will be steady as a rock but any vehicle is prone to wind pressure especially from the side. It's more obvious with over cab sleeping pods. Hang on in there!

I get a little bit on my Comanche but nothing too dramatic, certainly nothing to give me concern. 80psi sounds a bit high to me, check your weight and give Michelin, or whoever the tyre manufacturer is, a call.

Yes, when picked my Autoquest up from the dealer I thought I'd never get it home, it was like a mad woman's poo, all over the place, but when loaded and tyres reduced to 60f, 65r, it was a different animal altogether:thumb:

i had same label on pillar. weighed van by axel and emailed vanco conti tyres withthe laden and unladen weights, they emailed me back with my pressures front 62psi rear 80 psi when fully loaded ( front 1450kgs rear 2000kgs ) they also gave me my unladen pressures front 52ps1 rear 70psi.:thumb:

so your 80 all round will make the front end a bit skitty

We have an apache with now just over 3 year old camper tyres.

Our tyres have the pressure on them, 69 psi.

We have been overtaken by trucks here and on the continent. I have never, strangely, noticed any problem on the continent. I have, however, noticed some movement over here when it's a truck that's going faster than all the others by quite a few miles an hour. Usually Irish registered, but one or two UK.

What I have noticed is I do get some movement in what i call the motorway tramlines. Those parts, usually on a hill, where it obviously needs resurfacing where heavys tyre impressions are well worn into the surface. I can move quite a bit when I first hit them if they are bad until I get one side running straight in them. It's not quite wide enough to just fit into these tramlines on both sides of the axle spread, which is narrower on the front axle on mine.

Our van has the wide Alko chassis and to uprate the gross weight I had air suspension fitted to the rear. What a bonus when overtaking commercials on the motorway, iti just so rock solid and the ride overall is just so much smoother

Truck 55 mph, Motorhome .....if you do 60 mph no problem

One way to help avoid being sucked in when being overtaken by a big vehicle is to move over to as close as you can to the near side white lane marking without going into the hard shoulder used to do that when towing a caravan, gives a wider gap between you both so less chance of being sucked in towards the other vehicle.

I took my 2004 apache to a way bridge to get axle weights,3.8 t laden weight.
I'm always under my limits but not by much.I contacted mitchellin with weights and was Told 60 front 80 rear !
