You know, you get some help from a web site or an App. and then see a donate button.

Do you donate a small amount to help keep the site/App. going, or think it's a bit of cheek?

The web seems to have many really helpful people who either have more knowledge than many of us, or choose to spend their time compiling information that is helpful to others.

Thinking about the many small programmes that you can use, converting data is one I have used, or places to park or camp.

Do we expect to get these services for free because they are on the web, or should we reward these people with a small donation?

I drop a donation in the pot if the website gives me the information I have had difficulty finding or if the site explains a complicated concept in a way I am able to understand.:thumb:



So the short answer is Yes.

I've sometimes donated in cash and in kind (contributing corrections to information on sites for instance).

Not sure if it counts but, over the years, I've also run a number of web sites which provide information for free.

I donate as the info has probably saved me a few bob on tradesmen/ experts fees.

I donate to programs but rarely to websites. For example recently donated to FileZilla as it is an excellent FTP client.
