Help with somewhere warm for the winter (1 Viewer)

I want to take a 34ft RV, 3 kids and a dog somewhere warm this coming winter. November to January. The kids will need plenty to keep them occupied when they are not studying, water, horses, walking etc and we will need a site thats relatively quiet by day with a good Wifi connection. Anyone know anywhere that might fit the bill?

Jim if you want warmth it probably has to be Spain and coastal or close to the coast. Are you going to tow a car? It could make a difference in terms of access to the facilities.

Yes we will have a car so do not need to be right amongst it.

Hi Jim my limited experiance of winter camping is that its geared to the older generation (snow birds) So a lot of the local amusments/restaurants ect. are shut.

At Quarteria even the site pool was closed, which surprised me as the site was packed, don't know why they think older people don't swim.

Is it because most oldies wont spend when wintering away? (so not worth employing staff) and can still earn well anyway?

I used Camping Cabo Pino near Fuengirola. last winter, facilities open all year as are the Restaurants at Cabo Pino Port a short walk away. Close to Fuengirola and Marbella. Gets quite full over the winter. Can take any size RV. I'm booked in again from the 9th Sept. :thumb:

However. I have ridden to the following and can say that a 34ft would be able to negotiate to the camp site. Very basic though. But close to lots of amenities:-

Hi Mick, looking at the prices, and before any long term discount the low season price would be 50 euros a night, (pitch, 2 adults, 3 kids and dog) is this the norm for the area?

We can recommend Camping Bon Repos at Santa Suzanna, lots of facilities and just round the corner -literally - from Santa Suzanna. You can catch the train to Barcelona etc etc (Barcelona = 1 and half hours = cost just over 6euros return!!!!)

In the low season you stay 30 nights and pay for 20, which is another bonus.

Camping is right onto the beach and truly fantastic. There is free wifi in Santa Suzanna, but when we were there last week it was VERY slow.

If I could work out how to add photographs to the forum, I would send you a couple!!

How about Portugal Jim?
We stayed at Camping Valverde, near Luz in the SW of Portugal, we & our friends got our 32 foot RV's in without problems.
Luz and Lagos are close by and with an ACSI card it is good value. :thumb:

Do I detect a meet down South coming on? :Cool:

When we were at Newbury we were reliably told that a large number of RV

pitches are to be built right on the beach at Villajoyosa. The campsite is now

owned by the ex owner of Playa del Torres which is now shut.

The pitches are not built yet but will be soon . ( Soon ? ) I know someone who

got their Monaco on there this winter but I don't know how much room he had.

If they are, it will make a great site for the winter. It is 5 miles south of

Benidorm and about 2 miles from the 2000 seater rugby stadium of

www.rugbylavila.net

The junior teams there would stuff ANY I have seen here this winter,

Unfortunately the website is not working very well !!!!!!!!

The campsite does not seem to have a website yet. It is Camping Playa Paraiso

at Villajoyosa and can be found with a google search. It does say open from Feb

to Dec but I would be amazed if that was right.


It is definately one we will be keeping our eyes on. The owners previous site cost us about 18 euros plus elec a night long term . ( RV 2 kids and car )


Barcelona is cold in winter. Camping Marjal is fantastic but I am not sure

they have ever seen kids there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which is the site Scotjimland goes to. That sounded alright

Found the bit about RV's pitches, they need min 12 weeks booking, but it looks great. I will call them tomorrow and see what the score is with the opening times:thumb:

Some of the pictures are of the old site Playa del Torres.

Ours is the RV behind the Discovery. The Monaco near the beach is the one that

was on the new site this winter.

if you decide to go to spain, then try to spend some time in puerto banus, great shopping for the girls, both tack & designer so whichever rocks your boat, i know what rocks ginny's there was a fantastic greek restaurant on the front, recommend the lamb, and the baileys are huge:thumb: sit on the front people watching you will see some sights believe you me and you could admire the boats also, sorry don't know any sites but i am sure you will find one that suits, enjoy! it is possible that we could be in spain for christmas (not in the rv) but staying at our daughters hopefully soon to be completed purchase apartment, which is near puerto banus, and marbella, so if we do and you are there we could have a mini meet
