Since the purchase of my RMB there has been one query that is bugging me. In one of the cupboards there is a switch, pic 1. When pressed it lights up, pic 2. Whatever it does it draws 0.02 amps as shown on the gauge, pic 3 and 4. In the next cupboard is a relay that the switch activates, pic 5. I can hear this relay being activated so I know it works. What the hell does this switch do ???.
By the way its 12 volt.
The old gent that I bought the van from had no idea either.

Could it be something like a tank frost heater that is on a stat on the heater?

I thought that, but am sure it would draw more power.

Given the current weather the heater (if that's what it is) probably won't kick in. Only when the temp gets down to about 3c. This may be why no high current draw.

many many years! since I was a kid
whatever the relay powers must not be either connected anymore or even removed. the low current draw seen is the power used to energise the relay itself

I've got a switch exactly like that in my MH, with 'Self Destruct' written on it in marker pen.

Obviously some CI fitter's idea of a joke.

I'll just see if it does anyth

looks like its a retro fit, not original factory fitted.

Probably frost protection. But definitely 'a thing of purpose'

Its definitely not retro fit. Its the same as all the other switches and the wiring goes into the trunking. I cant see how it could have been fitted after the furniture was built in. It must be there for a reason, but what I do not know. Its in what used to be the TV cupboard and the microwave is in the next cupboard to it, above the fridge. I did think it was a fridge fan switch, but the fridge fan comes on whether its switched on or off.

That relay has only 3 wires and a spare spade - whatever it was, it's gone.

Thanks for that Brian. Its got 2 big thick wires and a thin one. Because its right at the back of a narrow cupboard I cant see properly what is on it. The camera flash showed more up than you can actually see. Because of it situation I cant see how they have removed anything from in there. Thats what's confusing me.

It's probably linked to a light sensitive diode, which should be activated when on sites. It then,at first light, ejects a towel onto the nearest sunbed thus reserving it!
This used to be standard fit on German vans however as with most things is now a costly extra.

Is it possibly a heater for the gas valve/ regulator?

I have a switch like that at home in my kitchen. Flick the switch and a red neon comes on. Ive been looking into it for a while now but nothing seems to come on or go off when it's flicked. We've only been in the house for 14 years......

Thanks for that Brian. Its got 2 big thick wires and a thin one.

Looks more like two thin and one thick black. That thick black I would guess is the the feed to whatever went missing.

Ok, am in agreement with that Brian. The only thing that I cant understand is how whoever took whatever out got it out of such a small place in the first place. Jeez...I hope that makes sense
