I need help from the technicians among us please.
I am having problems getting the full amount of hot water from my Truma water heater.

Facts - capacity of hot water heater - 12 litres (According to the manual)
Fact I am only getting 6 litres (Measured with litre jug)
Fact - I have just had the printed circuit board replaced
Fact - the hot water does not flow immediately, but is preceded by spluttering before the hot water does flow.
Fact - the system is 13 years old

My conclusion - system is furred or silted up. If so how do I de-furr it or de-silt it or is my self diagnoses way off the mark?

I would like to solve the problem before getting to Lincoln if possible.

Many thanks guys I know I will get loads of advice - most good, some humorous and some helpful if not applicable

Spluttering sounds like the system is not bled properly... air lock...

You can get a descaler... never tried it myself..

my opinion....wrong circuit board fitted not allowing full temperature before switching off.

its the only thing thats changed.....unless its always only given 6ltrs

many many years! since I was a kid
descale by draining down, filling the boiler and pipes with white vinegar. heat boiler up then leave for 24hrs. drain down and refill with water. test and repeat if neccessary

do this every 12 months or more frequently if youre often filling in a hard water area

Personally, I'd fill it up with citric acid and go for a drive. You'll need several packets and need to find a way to insert directly into the cylinder. I don't know enough with Trauma heaters to advise how.

Also, make sure the thermostat is correctly located. It should be near the bottom, as only water above the thermostat is heated.

Can't remember ;)
Hi I dont think it's the wrong board simply because I dont think others will fit --bleed system by turning HW tap on until spluttering stops -wc room as well-

Open the furtherest tap away from the tank/Boiler first...

Then the next nearest and so on...

Do it on both hot and cold,,,, till the water runs smoothly.. :thumb:

It has always given short measure of hot water ie not enough to manage a short shower

Am I right in understanding that the thermostat is in the circuit board housing?

Ours gets extremely hot and I wonder if the thermo is OK

I think what you might be forgetting is that for every litre of hot water you use it is immediately replaced with a litre of cold, not a problem if only using small amounts at a time as the new cold quickly gets heated, when showering I'm guessing that you leave the water running continuously instead of the wet the body, turn off, soap up, rinse off technique. for a bit extra you can allways turn on the gas at the same time as the electric.

Hi normanandsue,

What happens after you get the 6 litres of water? Does the water stop, or is further water cold?
