I'm a newbie of 2 days
Well I've made it to Dorset and am snuggled in for my 3rd night.
Day 1 flooded the petrol forecourt putting diesel in water tank, in my defense it had a petrol cap  Then ran out of fuel because I didn't know I'd filled the water tank
Night one, hooked up to mains But nothing happening in van. Used torch.
Day 2 got help from a friend and we found the mains switch (out of reach for me).
Day 3 peace and a chance to meet folk. Weather forecast bad so have battened down the hatches early and blessing the chemical loo especially with the tips  Thanks all for your help & patience. Haynes manual on it's way

It`s all a learning curve...

Things will get better...

I`ll pass on the cup of tea if that`s OK... :thumb:

Joking aside.... you need to drain your fresh water system and keep filling and emptying with a good dose of Milton steralising fluid in each time... and let it stand for a good few hours..

I fear your best bet will be a new tank and pipeing.. to get rid of the taste/smell...

Garage draining tomorrow. They've recommended alternating Milton & coke leaving 2 hrs to stand each time. Apparently 2 litre bottle of each should work, Worth a try

my bro borrowed a previous van for a weekend at an airshow

no hosepipe so used a bucket and the....DIESEL FUNNEL...i used to decant fuel from a 20ltr gerry can.

the funnel had been used a few days earlier, was still wet and stank.

took ages to get rid of the taint in the water.

i doubt you will ever get rid of the taste of diesel if you filled the tank.
diesel floats on water so every time you flush the tank any dregs will just sit on top of the water and wont be flushed out.

your next expenditure will probably be with CAK Tanks for a replacement tank.

you could try a strong solution of dishwasher powder and a 1/4 tank of hot water then find a twisty road to agitate the solution.
that should desolve the residual diesel and flush it out.

couple more clean water flush's then taste

Hard lesson to lean, hope you eventually get rid of the taint. We have all made mistakes, that what makes us human. Thinks can only get better, think of the stories you can tell later.

I appreciate your point, the friends in question are very special & home/pet sit for me when I'm away or in hospital. No one else would get the opportunity to be a passenger, let alone borrow my MH

Thanks Dave, RAC man told me it's a regular mistake. That made me feel better.
At least I'll no my tanks are bacteria free if they are new  I've got enough auto immune deficient issues to make the cost of new tanks feel like a worthwhile investment

If you cant get it sorted, bring it down to us for sorting, it wont be cheap as you really need to change everything including the boiler as diesel is impossible to get rid off, even boiling the water in a kettle leave a taste unfortunately

Peter

you drink from the boiler Peter :Eeek: :roflmto:

I think that is a little extreme personally.

agreed the water will be tainted but you arent drinking it.

we are all assuming Lucy actually ran any water/diesel through the taps.......i doubt it as she ran out of fuel on the way to a campsite so may have realised the mistake before running water.

PappaJohn was right :thumb:I've run no water at all, so all contamination
is in the tanks only.

Hi Lucy
If the tanks going to come off and it is in decent condition it might be worth getting it steam cleaned internally rather than spending on a new one.

Great but if you try any of the ideas as to cleaning it with Coke or detergent, DONT try and pump it out using the taps as the system will then get contaminated.
