What's that for then?

OK, good question! For those of you not familiar with these devices, they really are the fastest and most reliable solution to off-grid charging of your leisure battery bank.

How? Well this is how.

Using a conventional split-charge system, you rarely get much more than 13.5 volts at your leisure battery when your engine is running. This radically decreases the amperage and thus charge your leisure battery receives. Also, the reduced voltage means that your leisure battery will NEVER be charged to full capacity, however long you run your engine. This is bad for the health of your battery and bad for your endurance off EHU.

The Sterling Battery to Battery Charger amplifies the voltage supplied to your leisure battery during engine charging. It also charges your leisure battery using a proper 4-step charging process which ensures your leisure battery is properly charged and properly conditioned. The higher charging voltage (up to 14.8 volts for open lead acid batteries) produces a much higher charging current. The actual current varies according to battery size and type, but using a 100 amp unit, an open lead acid traction battery of 125 Ah, at 80% discharge will charge FULLY in one hour.

This in stark contrast to the 5hrs or so taken by a conventional split charge system to charge it to only about 80% capacity.
A typical built-in charger of 16 amps capacity, run off a genny or EHU would take 6 1/2 hours.

Solar depends on the weather of course, you do well to exceed 5 amps of charging current for most installations.

So, basically, if you want up to 20% more power in your battery and want to charge it in one fifth of the time, then this is what you need!
