Shame to see that, but used ones will still be around for many many years.
VW in Germany have recently announced that they will rebuild any type two using all new original panels and parts, if you ship them the van. The cost will be around 100k! I wonder how many takers they will have when there so many specialist companies doing ground up restorations for far less than that

they werent slow if you fitted one of my engine adaptors in and fitted an 1800cc gti engine .
mind i do like the new 1400 ones .been tempted to get one .
mind i wouldnt buy it here .think a visit to brazil and send it off by boat via the states and have a holiday as well.

Danbury were pointing this deadline out in their recent emails - they'll no doubt be stocking up on T2s. It'll be interesting to see how they cope - whenever I visited a few years ago I got the impression that the majority of their orders were T2s, followed by quite a few T5s and then a handful of Fiats/Renaults. And they couldn't convert the T2s fast enough.

Mind you, they were also boasting recently of the fact that they have the biggest T2/T5 service bay in the UK, so they're obviously hoping that keeping T2s on the road will be a good source of income for a while yet.

still think i liked the j.p. whites from sidmouth devon conversions the best .
i still have quite alot of stuff that came from the sale of devon conversions at exeter . thats where the eurovette stickers on my trailer came from .
still use vw tools that came from pollards garage in falmouth from the 60,s .
we used to go away in the early 60,s in winter in vw campers . my parents and their friends . i still visit some of the places and families we knew then . my son has a t25 only had it 16yrs . it is a family affair . dont like the t4 or t5 think they are crap. but the air cooled are my favourites .

I used to own a '67 1500 Beetle............it was fantastic when I was 20........would I like it now? I doubt it

Always used to say a VW had character.......................hmm.............character is a euphemism for noisy, cramped, inadequate and slow.

Maybe I won't rush to buy a T2 then.....

snap .my first vw was a zenith blue 1500 67 beetle .sloping headlights ,4 stud wheels . 6volt electrics but in 12v dynamo and starter disguise .
had almost every aircooled since other than a schwimwagon .and i might get one one day .
i did like the 1500 notch backs had a couple of them . sneaked in a 1600inj motor from a late 72 fastback . gave it a bit of edge .

Hmm, noisy cramped inadequate and slow? They call that Compact and bijou now! As for slow? I drove my '72 T2 all round France and the UK at a top speed of 60 mph. Now we have our new 2.2 litre Peugeot based van, I drive it at a top speed of 60mph.... Mind you, it does go up hills faster
We loved our VW's, we also had a 74 beetle which was great fun
Would I buy one now? Well, we thought about it, but comfort won over looks

Can't speak for Bailey vans, but our belted seats are secured to the massive Transit rwd chassis rails by 4 m16 bolts per frame and a piece of 20mm plate underneath. The van will disintegrate around you, but the seats won't budge!

I noted the Bailey crash test also featured the unsecured dinette table being fitted. There's a good reason for having a fixed table on a sturdy leg. This is a feature found in many continental vans.
Ours got in the way, so we have a removable table fitted now, but that is stowed in the overcab for travel.

I'm not saying coachbuilts are very crashworthy, but at least the chassis cab meets modern standards and there is a crumple zone and SOME deceleration before everything stops.
It is the controlled deceleration which limits the injuries, after all.

The old VWs on the other hand, just stop IMMEDIATELY! Your head will smash off the hard steering wheel, steel dash, windscreen or thing you've just hit.
I'll take my chances behind the airbag of of our NCAP 3 star rated Transit!

Just found my new Nissan Primastar work van only gets a 2 star rating!

That's a step backwards from my previous van, a Transit!

in fact the t2 and the t25 had wrap around safety cages built in to the front area .and in many cases seat belt fixings were built into the floor of all except the pure van .
floor pans were easily changed just afew bolts on the sides and cut by the center tunnel .two new floor pans could be fitted in about three days on the beetles . very easy to fix .
engine changes were a treat . we could fit 3 new recon engines a day .thats just two of us on the t2. we used to fit about 200 a year at one time . the aa rac used to wheel em in and we had them back on the road same day.
yes lots didnt liker them ,thats why i specialized in them . in the summer we carried 30 recon engines as spares . regular trips to holland ,germany etc for spares picking up exchange engines from volkspares at sydenham . for 18 yrs lived breathed slept vw . great vehicles .

Great vehicles for their time!
I just felt it was a bit irresponsible to keep making and selling them to a european market in this day and age! Especially when kids are known passengers!

We loved the time we spent in our T25 as a couple. The van was so easy to maintain and you made friends everywhere!:thumb:

but buy the one with seatbelt points mounted in the rear ,
the cage is constructed in the t25 by heavy steel ducting across the front and back through the front doors . heavy caging built in to door pillars and over the roof by the bulkhead behind front seats .
there was some heavy roll tests done at one time . with the t25 even the high top it came out top in all the vans tested .
really the only thing that was missing could be airbags and abs . dont need them anyway.
we also have to remember you could buy a vwt2 in brazil for about 11grand new . its just the high prices here that make them silly money .
