My choice would be recondition your own then you know its done correctly or find someone you trust or highly recomended to you

Take care with back street or Internet repairs the worst of these are crooks or in competent bodgers who will rip you of

Places like ebay can be a rip off as you buy a engine that looks good till you run it and a pile of crap and when you try to complain or refund you have no chance without court action and then no guarantee of recompense
I am sure you have thought of all this please take care as the saying goes
Fool and his cash are easily parted
Think check and check again

This company rebuilds and sells 'remanufactured' engines. They specialise in mercedes but mention Peugeot and Iveco on their website. No indication of Fiat but they may know someone who can do what you want.

When I replaced my engine (1978 Chevy 5.7L small block) it was cheaper to get a brand new engine. Probably not in your case, but do check first.

many many years! since I was a kid
www.ashleyenginesltd.co.uk/‎ in bristol will rebuild the original better than new. even finding a similar engine that will fit will mean using an engine of the same age/era. everything later is more complicated as it involves ecu and sensors to be transplanted

Yes, I was lucky they still made them. I think mine was the best selling engine of all time, hence the ongoing OEM availability. They haven't been permitted in new cars since 1993, but you can still buy them!

As to rebuilds, it depends what is wrong with it and the reason for the rebuild. I've actually had success with a west London dodgy exchange engine dealer. If you know what you want (in that case a 300 quid drop in replacement to get another 2 years out of a wreck), they can actually be good value. If you are looking to lovingly restore a timeless classic, best stay clear.

You're doing the right thing to ask for recommendations, though, as there are lots of crooks in this line of business.

your engine isnt tired, it just isnt turbo charged.

a 2.5 fiat engine,if properly maintained, should be good for at least 1/4 million miles

even rebuilding yours or slotting in a replacement wont make a great inprovement.
