Hi ,, I'm thinking of fitting a tow bar and scooter rack to a Roller Team 600 2009 on a Transit to carry a 125cc scooter <125kgs in weight

Has anyone fitted one to a similar vehicle

I've talked to a couple of manufactures and they say there is no issues with fitting one to this vehicle. But I have concerns of the distance from the main Transit legs to the rear of the motorhome , the roller team extensions do not look man enough to take any excessive weight so looks like all the weight will be taken by the Transit legs.

The weight on the van should not be a issue as it has payload of >600kgs and there is only 2 of us using the van and we travel light

I could go down the trailer route , and I already have a bike trailer but I'm thinking of storage on site , getting on aires with restricted space and the dreaded reversing on country roads etc.

I have been looking at the ridged trailers with the castor wheels, but again I not sure of the engineering integrity , and legality , and price (£1200).

Any help or advice would be gratefully received

many many years! since I was a kid
even fitting a towbar poses a problem with some manufacturers, where they extend the chassis with lightweight rails. basically these extensions need bypassing with thicker structural steel arms. this adds to the weight dramatically and in some cases allow the towbar to flex with any weight above about 75kg

you need to discuss the towbar with a specialist in motorhome bars not just the local fitters

I have contacted "motorhome" tow bar fitters and they are confident that there are no issues and they can fit what I want.

I maybe being a little over concerned !!

I know what you mean. I have fitted rack for my 125kg motorbike onto my Aviano which is plated at 4000kgs and the fitter has also told me that I will have no problems, but others on the forums are more sceptical.
I will be weighing all at a weighbridge and keeping my fingers crossed!
I still can't believe that I will have a problem but the worry is there in the background. I'll keep all posted!

Scooter rack or trailer?

I've had a scooter rack for two years now fitted by a specialist trailer/tow bar manufacturer and was assured it would be legal with my honda 90 aboard. I have not tested it on a weigh bridge but, even if it was legal, I still find it disconcerting with the "tail wagging the dog" syndrome so, I have ordered a "side loading" trailer and hope the perceived benefits transpire!

What else would they say.

You need to do some sums. Work out just what you have to play with.

You need to know: wheelbase, rear overhang, weight on front axle, weight on rear axle, permitted front axle ( which will actually decrease ) and permitted weight on rear axle which will dramatically increase. Nothing at all like your 125kg scooter but at least double.

The "tail wagging the dog" is the thoughts i have. Again I sure I'm ok with the weights, we are way under and like i said earlier it is a 6 berth with a large payload with only 2 of us

I've looked at the side loading trailers which look really good but close to impossible to reverse if stuck on a country road etc.

What looks the best option is the rigid side loading trailer with the castor type wheels , but i know reading on here that a lot of people have concerns with the engineering design and the legality of them and the cost.
