Came across the above site recently.

Said to be set up to 'promote the needs and aspirations of Motorhome users in the UK and from abroad,'

May be useful in the future but in it's infancy just at the moment, but one to watch?

I agree - here is the link to save you having to google it www.tmcto.org

The Jedburgh site is listed and have seen it but not used it (too close to home) and it compares favourably with French aires

It shows promise I wonder if there is a commercial angle hope not

There is no commercial motive behind this organisation. This has not even been part of any considerations or discussions within the group who are actively working to bring this site together.

I have been contacting every UK council getting current info on Motorhome Parking. This info is being displayed on site and on the parking map. This has brought some prospect to light and other are following up on these leads. There are some council out there who are considering motor caravan users needs but not openly advertising it at present.

The site has a forum purely to discus parking and overnight halt provision. Broken Link Removed

I agree that an effective organisation would be an asset.

However, organisation or not there is absolutely nothing (bar themselves) to stop any individual lobbying their own councillors in the areas where they live. Local knowledge of the benefits aires could bring to the area where the individual lives could be invaluable in making progress. That is how most of the existing facilities have come about.

So, those who want aires, go for it - as I say it is only yourselves who are stopping you.

Sorry to be a bit fof a kill joy but do you think the aire system would work in the UK ??

I can think of many places I would not feel safe parking up for the night . Too much crime.

Have just got back from our local village Fete . No one around at lunch time and three boxes of bottles of Bergerac lying at the side of beer tent also open. How long would that stay there in the UK ??

I agree there are places in the UK which are similar but in a small island with huge population not so many.

Ok head down before the flack !!

One of the messages in the forum from the organisers:

We are a voluntary group of individuals trying to achieve our goals on a self help basis.

Would you like to help us in our work?

Have you any skills you could offer us ? Have you experience in effective campaigning? Parliamentary or local authority lobbying,? Legal and/or administration in local authorities or other public bodies,? Pro bono legal advice? Working inside Tourism organisations and authorities? Building, Planning, Estimating or any specialist knowledge you think may assist our aims?

If so, please go to CONTACT US and send us an internal email.
