Crikey, I was just reading another French thread and the convertor was mentioned.

I had not given this a single thought (probably because we wild camp in Scotland lol)

I have also read that polarity is often reversed :Eeek:

Does any one have any advice re what type to buy please?

Many thanks

with these two 16amp plug & socket above.. put a short piece of 16 amp cable in between and reverse the polarity at one end (meaning at one end put the brown to neg -..and the blue to pos + that will reverse any electric that is reversed back to normal....use the red tester below to check for reversed polarity and for NO earth...use the tester with the 13 amp trailing socket with the blue 16amp with a 13amp traling socket on one end

Adaptor lead. Camping shops or ebay. Loads of them about..

You can buy or make a short swop over lead to deal with reverse polarity, some of us I know dont bother... The reverse polarity thing can start a whole debate and the Health and safety mob will come running. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

To be honest whatever you need it is invaribly listed on my website with Funsters discount, all you have to do is :Eeek: and let your fingers do the walking:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

For instance search 'continental' and hey presto a drop down box appears with a selection

We didn't need to use ours recently in Alsace, the Vosges and the Haut Jura, nor in Germany, all were the same connections as UK.

Still making mistakes! But they're not as costly.
So I plug the polarity tester in the French EHU and it shows me that the polarity is in reverse. What do I do then? Go to another site and hope the polarity is the same as my van, or do I ask the nice French camp person to come and do the electrical stuff on the EHU for me?

This is a good one but sometimes the mounting rail for the sockets is too far back or bodged and the angled wont cut it.

IGNORE reverse polarity. Anywhere you hook up here or abroad you should check that your RCD/RCBO operates by its test button. If it trips you are OK. Don't buy unnecessary rubbish.

Reverse polarity cannot possibly cause a problem to a 12 volt TV nor a 230 volt TV
Reversing the polarity simply means that your switches will be in the neutral conductor instead of the line conductor. Your equipment does not know one from the other.
Unless you are going to take your electrics to pieces while it is LIVE polarity is irrelevant

Pure coincidence
The device that converts 230 volts AC to 12 volts DC for your TV has absolutely no knowledge of polarity and works exactly the same either way around.
Likewise if it is directly connected to your battery , this is isolated from the mains by your battery charger.

it seems a leci has already answered all i know is that a proper tv for a mh has a gadget in it that would stop any prob with a rev pole where as mine which is a 12v from comet at a fraction of the cost does not have that gadget or was i ill informed ?
and like i said it never happened before or after both rev pole was in czech and poland ?

since 2006 ( I think ! )
AC voltage

By its nature 50% of the time one side is -ve to the datum line, 50% of the time one side is +ve

As already said, the big difference is the feed line is usually switched rather than the return.. But that really is the only ACTUAL difference..

See below and you get the idea :thumb:

The cheap TVs are/were a voltage stabilisation issue but I think you'll find that they are all stabilised these days at any price.
