Can anyone help:helpsos:
We have just had a scooter rack fitted which has put the rear axle wieght within 60kg of its limit with the scooter onboard. Is there any way we can uprate the axle wieght without upgrading the MAM?.

they will give you the answer if it can be upgraded.

If you want to add say 100kg to the rear without adding to the MAM your going to have to loose 100kg from somewhere else Try JJ he's a magician or take the engine out

Our van is a new elddis 165 on a Peugeot boxer chassis, first registered 8/5/13 with leaf springs. Will air suspension make any diffference?

you can only uprate your axle limits by uprating the gross weight.

do you mean 60kg below the plated rear axle limit...or the vans gross weight ?

can you type your VIN plate and weighbridge weighs on here

all weights as follows
rear axle limit 2000kg. loaded with scooter 1940kg.
front " " 1850kg. " " " 1220kg.
Gross 3500kg. " " " 3140kg.

As you can see we have plenty to spare on gross weight.
Still got clothes food and wife to load, or should I leave her behind?
About 100gk to add (wife 60kg/clothes and food 40kg) mostly at front.

adding air suspension will help the handling and ride height, but you need to follow the instructions of a specialist to increase the axle weight limits. this may include air suspension and different tyres with higher rating or add an extra leaf to the rear leaf springs.

either way SV tech are the way to go, as they will handle the DVLA forms and issue an updated weight plate for the van. doing it yourself is not a simple process so worth the money

make sure your driving licence covers you to drive above 3500kg first though:thumb:

while you are still within the rear axle limit you only have another 340kg allowance on the front axle....it must be no more than 1560kg.

1560 front plus 1940 rear = 3500kg

dont forget, loading a couple foot behind the front axle will still increase the rear axles weight.
so, your wife in the passenger seat will almost be on the front axle so neglegible weight transfer to the rear.

40kg of food etc near the middle of the van may put another 20kg on the rear axle....you only had 60kg to spare to start with.

i reckon you need to transfer some weight to the front as you will be flying extremely close to your limit on the rear
contrary to my previous post..you cant uprate the gross beyond the plated max axle weights and.you cant uprate an axle beyond its plated max without upgrading brakes suspension and tyres for starters

another option, and the easiest by far, is put the scooter on a trailer.

It does all depend on the vehicle ref upgrading the axle weight.
On my old Autotrail I had an increase from a gross of 3850 to 4100 there was also and increase on the rear axle weight ( cant remember the figures ).
However we needed airide fitted and tyres needed to be a certain load specification.


Do the SV tech thing, still free as far as i know to get the answer..
