What Make and model of Motorhome have you got.. ? Me, Damon, Daybreak..

What length.. ? Me = 33ft.

How many berth`s... ? Me = 6 Berth.

What year was it registered.. ? Me = Oct 2010.

How many miles on the clock.. ? Me = 9,836.

Just a bit of forward thinking on my part...... Time marching on and I find other than when we go to sunnier climes for a few months of the winter... and perhaps a week or so combining meets and shows...

I find it more of a chore than a pleasure getting the M/H tanked up and off our drive just for an occasional weekend away... And talking and thinking, would we get out more with a large`ish Eurovan.... that we can also tow a car on an "A" frame, (In this country) and a small trailer on the continent...

Part of me say`s don't do it,,,, we would miss the space,,,, and the other half say`s we would be more inclined to get out more...

I do like "Champers" layout... :thumb:

Bought her in 2008 and never looked back (no back window ::bigsmile:) Hopefully we can say we would not change her for anything we have seen in years, Ok there are newer, fancier, bigger, smaller but she has done us well and has covered everything we wanted.
Has been places where Rv's should not have gone. To us its our one and only Home and she gets spoilt, Always checking her over and if anything needs changing or doing it gets done.

Everyone to there own choice of Motorhome, Smaller European can go places we could never get too, but have not got the carrying capacity or living space as American...But As they will get about 20/30 to gallon more then they win on points for that.
What ever you own , enjoy it . As long as it covers what you want from it then that is all that matters.

Have a nice day whatever your doing

Willy Waver.

Small is good.

Or you could go for a big one like Champers.

You could not fail to have more FUN when you don't need Convoi Exceptionel escorts everywhere.

Spain tilted last time you visited.

Go for it.

I took the RMB for its MOT this morning which is the first one since importing it last July. I didn't think we had been far in the last 11 months, but the difference was just over 17000kms since import.

Have you seen his van ?

It takes him twenty minutes to walk round it kicking the tyres. Then he hooks up a trailer that was designed to house the Graf Zepplin.

The Police close the local roads for him so that he does not frighten too many natives.

We are talking huge. When he farts inside it echoes for half an hour. When he fills it up locally the garage owner books a winter cruise.

What you got?

We have a 7 year old Hymer, 21ft, 4 tonne, double floor, sat system, air on and lots of other toys fitted by the original first owner. Got it 2 years ago and have added 14k miles, now 40k. Runs like a dream and wouldn't swap it (even if we could afford to!). But.......

Since we moved to Cornwall a year ago, the mileage we cover has dropped by 50%, excluding last autumn's trip to Morocco. We used to tour the whole of the UK, but now stay more local. Though we do intend to go to Isla Plana for 6 weeks next Jan. So unless you truly do want a change, I'd stick with what you know and like.

Cheers:thumb:

We've just traded the Autoquest 180 in for an Autotrail Dakota.
We've gone down to a 4 berth from a 6 berth, but we wanted more lounging space, separate shower, fixed bed, large fridge and freezer, external space (that we didn't have before).......plus a few more goodies (full Air Con throughout), rev camera, alarm system, 3 litre engine, 160 bhp and we'll be around 8 metres with the tow bar on it. We never had all this in the Elddis, so we're looking forward to getting the Autotrail next month.

If I'd got my way, I'd have gone for the Autotrail Chieftain, but Margaret was terrified of the extra length:Sad::Eeek:

Well the thing is whether you have a palace on wheels or a pushbike, if it's become a CHORE and a PITA, yes you do need to change. Or completely get rid. The trouble is of course that most of us couldn't afford to get another, then decide we were better off with the one we had before because we'd have sold or P/X'd the first one in order to finance the second one. IYSWIM.

In an ideal world I'd have a big un, a little un, both with towbars and also a touring caravan (plus both full and park awnings) with a suitable car to pull it with and also a trailer which could carry either a car or a motorbike, at our whim .......

Since Feb 2013….2nd Van
2008 Auto-Sleeper Symbol. 36k on the clock. 2 berth. Out in it most weekends, also use it as a runaround on weekdays, whilst SWMBO has the car and is earning a crust.

Love the layout, even though I initially wanted a rear lounge(rhythm or similar). When we started using it, I realised how much I liked having seating near to the side door, especially in good weather. Beds can be made in about 2 mins...we only use the singles, never tried the double.

Still get excited the night before we head off in it. The dog loves it too. Perfect van for us.

I would certainly have another Auto-Sleeper in the future.

Van Conversion

Our Mercedes James Cook van conversion is 18'6" long and 10'1" high.

It has a fixed double bed 'up top', can convert the lounge seat into a double bed.
It has a larger than average kitchen with spacious compressor fridge but only a two-burner hob. No oven, no grill.
There is a decent size bathroom with shower and loo.
It has masses of storage for a van this size.

Though we have spent five weeks at a time in our van we sometimes look at larger vans and wonder if we would be more comfortable in one.
Then we think "what's the point?" We can park almost anywhere and obviously we can go anywhere a white van can go. We are not worried about 3.5t restrictions in France and we have often get onto aires that are already full.

We are foodies but rarely eat out yet our two burner will do almost everything we want. We carry a Cadac and a suitcase gas cooker too, so we can cook fish or onions and bbq outside.:winky:

We carry 100lt of water plus several 5lt bottles of fresh water. We take two bikes, folding chairs, folding tables, three gas bottles and various extras and never exceed 3.5t.

So, apart from the bench seat being a little less comfortable than we'd like and not being able to 'entertain' a number of people, what are we missing by having a smaller van?

Our current one - 22 years old and gorgeous, went through her teenage years stored under sheets in a barn, so now all new tyres, cam, fan and pump belts and tensioners plus brakes etc...... Kon-Tiki 640/6.
She's 23 ft long, really good on fuel, needs no top ups between oil changes, goes really well and reliable (except our first recent 'boyoyng' - injector pipe cracked), ROOM - GLORIOUS ROOM, six berth (just two of us and the dog), U shaped lounge for lounging, 2.5 litre TD, and fits to a Khyam Motordome Sleeper DA awning,,,,,,,,,,,, how much more room could we need. We usually take over half the campsite with half an acre surrounded by windbreakers behind this lot. :roflmto:

Now saving every penny for next year's purchase (now we are hooked) hopefully along the lines of an Autotrail Arapahoe but we love the current layout so the replacement must be similar.

We just throw in the duvets, a few tinnies and off we go - we think the more planning and putting things in the van, the less the fun.
We like taking risks - like running out of milk or forgetting the tomatoes.:roflmto:

Aint this life great?:thumb:

Van Conversion

since 2005 (but 30 years caravanning)
Every van we have bought has been with the intention of keeping it for years and years - but yet we are now on our 4th van! (although to be fair one of our changes was really to do with reliability issues)

Now have a Rapido 7090df, bought new April 2011. We think its wonderful! Island bed means no bed making and no climbing over the other half to go to the loo during the night. Double floor, containing tanks, means no problem in very cold weather (and last year we spent some weeks well N of the arctic circle)

Its the 2.3 130 fiat, 7.39mtrs long. Now done 21000 miles in just over 2 years. Been to Nordkapp, Morocco, S Portugal, Italy, and the outer Hebrides.

Its great and this time - if it stays reliable - I really think we will keep it for quite some time.

Lovely Van Dave from the female side of course, no idea about what is under the bonnet etc looks a great bit of kit ...

We are now on our "third van" and hopefully we will be able to keep it as long as we can travel / drive as we have found it to be just what we want, it is nearly a year (august that we had it and over 10,000 miles added , we find the layout very easy to cope with good or bad weather.... Thank you Perri n Tony for introducing us to a Frankia :thumb:

Ours is 6 Berth , 8.1mtrs long, 3.2 mtrs high , nothing ultra big, we have just returned from a 8 wk trip to France with no tolls , sites and aires were no prob and all was fine except when hubby went grape picking do to barree roads in Bergerac ...pre-Bastille time (another story :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: )

It all comes down to your needs really, we intend to travel over the water more and as they cater for the m/h's no prob but if we only intended to travel in the UK it would be a smaller van as the UK just doesnt cater for m/h's like abroad

Hi Kath, RMB have been owned by Frankia for some time now. I love Frankias, but could never afford one of there later offerings. I would only part with my RMB when I stop motorhoming in Europe. It has become a labour of love getting it the way I want it, but its been worth it. I think your tag axle Frankia is fantastic.
