Alarm keeps going off (1 Viewer)

My Motorhome alarm has started to go off, then recycle and after 10 minutes or so go off again.
I've now fully closed the roof window which was open a couple of inches to let air circulate and will see if this solves the problem. I've also removed some of the dashboard and found the Alarm, it's main control box and a smaller box with a sensor adjuster which is factory set. (If it alarms again I will turn down the sensitivity and try again).
Out of interest looked on E-bay and one is selling for £20.00. Phoned company who installed it to see what there minimum call out charge was and told £150.00. Don't think they will be getting any more calls from me.
I suspect the heat has something to do with it !

Our previous van had a Selca alarm fitted when we bought it. It went wrong a couple of years later and cost us a new alarm. Hope yours is fixed more easily.

A spider walking across the PIR in our garage at home is sometimes enough to set it off - but only when you are absolutely fast asleep so the awakening is as rude as it can be, plus it's hoying it down with rain

Any of the sensors, if not quite adjusted right, could cause this.

I had this problem just after we bought our rapido, the alarm went of intermittently and then would repeat.

Fortunately when it went off the inside warning light flashed a code which (with the aid to the instruction book) led me to the bonnet sensor - which had not been screwed far enough down. A 2 minute adjustment and all was fixed.

Why bother with a alarm as no body takes any noite when they go off do wot I did keep the mothe inlaw in the van

Problem solved....I Think !
Thanks to one and all for input. I have all seats covered with throw's and the top Hiki window cracked open to allow air to circulate.
I suspect some air movement was moving the trow on the drivers seat which is locked in the reverse position.
Since I shut the top window the alarm has not gone off. I'm not convinced they are worth the money as everybody and his dog ignores alarms anyway.

My car alarm started doing this (stock alarm on a Toyota Celica). It now lives in the "man drawer" in the kitchen. The remote central locking and immobiliser still work.

hi. i see you have an autotrail, is the alarm a TOAD by any chance? I used to have a Dakota and had similar probs with alarm going off for no reason,which was a pain in the ass if you were on a site and out for the day on your bike or whatever only to be greeted by your neighbour when you got back complaining about the din...never did find out what caused it, sold the van instead!!:thumb::thumb:

This will make you laugh.... Two weekends ago we stayed on a cs site near Bishops Stortford. On the first day we cycled off along the canal tow path for the day, when we came back one of the other motorhomers on site came over and told us our alarm had been going off all day ( we'd left the vent open too wide and the fly mesh was flapping)...... But unbeknown to us this particular motorhomer had a parrot in a cage outside their van, so the next morning at some ungodly hour we were awoken by the sound of our alarm going off..... How long do you think it took us to work out it was the parrot!!!!!

Did you mention that you carry fine wines in it ? That'll up the premium.

We had a problem on a previous motorhome and it turned out to be the fuse for the alarm that wasn't being held 'tight' in the holder so the contact wasn't great and the alarm therefore thought it was being tampered with occasionally!

If you can find the fuse holder(s) - probably somewhere under the bonnet or under the dash inside - try pushing the fuse well in and taping it in place and see if that sorts it out, it did with ours! If you have trouble locating the holder try looking for it at night with a torch as it will 'glint' when the torch goes anywhere near it - that's how I found mine after spending hours looking for it as it was hidden behind some other wiring under the lower centre part of the dash.

No it's not a TOAD( I'm reluctant to state what make it is for obvious reasons). Anyhow, the problem has been solved. It was down to the throw moving due to air circulation and all is well now.
I required the alarm for insurance purposes otherwise would not have had one fitted. They are IMO nothing more than a deterrent with a high nuisance value.
