Wish I could get decent pictures of the moon, I always end up with a blob of blurry white light.

Cracking shot.

For what it is worth the following is what I was told by a professional at our camera club.

" You have to remember that the moon is reflecting the light from the sun and is very bright, If you are using your camera meter to get the exposure, the meter is reading the large area of dark sky as well as the very bright moon and will not give you a correct reading.
Try setting your camera on a steady tripod with your longest lens.
Set the camera on manual and the aperture at about f5.6 or f8 (no depth of field to worry about)Then set a speed of about 1/250 second. Take the shot and look at the result on the camera monitor. If it is still too bright go to 1/500 or 1/1000 etc until you get what you want. If it is too dark, go the other way. Don't worry that the sky will go dark , it should be dark shouldn't it."

Really good photo of a difficult subject (it's very bright!!), I took a few with the same lens & tripod. In fact the 18-200 VR stays bolted on the front more than it should
