Hi Anne

Welcome to MHfun. Bear with us, its Sunday morning, the morning after the night before:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Are you asking

1) Is it risky having a potbelly stove for heat in the motorhome
2) Going to France and Spain for winter
3) Or going with your son

or using the stove whilst on the move? :ROFLMAO:

Near Orgiva in the Alpujarra mountains in Spain there are 2 or 3 hippie communes. The residents had a motley collection of converted vehicles - most of these were fitted with wood-burning stoves.
One camper on our site, with a Mercedes van, decided it was a good idea and I watched him get the tin snips out, cut a hole in his roof and fit the stove. The white smoke issuing from the roof was of Papal-announcing proportions but he loved it - it was like a sauna in there.

Risky yes, the risks can be managed of course, correctly installed and vented is high on the priority list followed by secure fire proof mounting and shielding.
a guard would almost go without saying, and use on the move totally prohibited
But and its a Big BUT, is your insurance company aware of the heating method proposed:Eeek:
Geo
And where on earth are you going to store the fuel for it

Wow................

You work for H&S by chance?

Somehow i don't think the characters who shove wood burning stoves in their vans are all that bothered about rules and regs. Doubtful they concern themselves too much about insurance either!
