I am a newbie
I am about to buy 7.29m A class 'an with 3L engine RHD manual. I am age 65 and driven for 47 years without major incident to date (doh!). I am being penalised on Insurance because i am a Newbie. Is there a way around that? Are there companies that are sensible?

Last year I insured a MH for the 1st time. I was 64, had an accident under 3 years previous in a company car, had 3 months left to run on 5 years for using mobile 'phone.
I was charged £312 for me and her for a MH valued at £25K.
This year went to Comfort and got it for £258.74. Now bad points cleared.
Mine is 7 metres+ and classed as Private HGV due to weight
What do you call being penalised?

Frank Pickles used to be very cheap years ago.

Also try A-Plan Insurance. They do some good deals and will mirror your NCB from another vehicle. They can also add another vehicle to the same policy later. Seem very helpful folk - I changed vehicles when one was having work on it, so swapped insurance. I explained why, and asked about their temp insurance cover to re-mot the OLD vehicle when it was repaired. They told me to just give them a call, and they would add it back onto the policy for the day - no charge.

Are you trying an insurer who specialises in motorhomes? Standard insurers may not be the best place to go. We have had ours for 6 years and the insurance has always been about the same as, or cheaper than, the car.
We have used Safeguard and now Comfort - both competitive. Others that come to mind include Adrian Flux and Sureterm (I have no experience of either of these). One that tries to coax me with direct mail every year is Saga, but they are not even in the running in terms of price.

many, if not all, the aforementioned companies will either 'mirror' the no claim bonus earned on your car, meaning they allow the same discount without taking it from the car, or offer an equivalent 'new business' discount.

Mine is £600 for a T reg (1999) 10mtr (34ft) 7.5 ton American motorhome.

We have always used safeguard. They always come out far cheaper than any of the others, but each company will be different depending on how they see your risk and the business that they want. Companies will almost price themselves out if it is not the customer profile that they want

We have also always used Safeguard. When we started they mirrored our car insurance.
Their cover also includes breakdown and recovery and to date we have not found a better price.:thumb:

I used tha Camping and Caravaning Club insurance. It was cheaper than all the others mentioned here except Comfort because I didn't try them ( never heard of them before). I also got a good deal on an Apellogeo tracker unit, which was a requirement from all insurers I tried due to the cost of my MH

Most of the dedicated motorhome insurance seem to offer a standard policy and dont operate a "no claim" if thats what your thinking.. Some have breakdown included and some dont..
The 2 mains ones are

Safeguard
Comfort (Aviva)

we went with sureterm direct two years ago, and cos we hadnt insured a camper for some while we had no no-claims for one. We paid £320 for 32' RV, and it included recovery. This year they were taken over by Lancaster ins, part of LV group, and has cost £320 with no recovery. Still not bad, and within the scope of other quotes we had. I got RAC arrival recovery which covers you for any vehicle you are travelling in, and recovers you to your holiday destination, and then home when you are ready. You get that for £82 if you join caravan and camping club, £41, and you get a £15 voucher back. So thats about £430 altogether for a 32', 7.5 ton LHD motorhome, fully comp and recovery, with only 2 years official no claims. We did have some daft quotes tho....as high as £900.
