Hi my husband made me join this site - coward - because we need advice.
Tomorrow we are going to test drive a Hymer. We actually live on a narrowboat and are looking to spend the summer in England and from the end of September until March in Andalucia close to Gibralar VERY CHEAP DIESEL!
What we want to know is has the law changed or are you still allowed to tow a small car on an A frame? Mike has heard somewhere that it has to travel on a trailer instead.
Can anyone help us with this.
Thanks Linda )

Hi Linda
whats darling hubby afraid we don't bite and we won't laugh at him

Welcome to our forum

As far as i know nothings changed regarding towing with an A Frame
It's still a grey area where as nobody has yet been stopped from using one, the British law has not yet said it's illegal and many of our members do use a tow frame and some have used them in Europe

Thanks everyone!

Thank you all for your help - it was much appreciated!
We have now bought the Hymer - soooooooooo excited, but still need to pick your little grey cells!
As I said yesterday we intend to spend 5 months in Southern Spain and leave it there during the summer, in the care of my brother, who is a permanent resident out there.
Two questions:
Insurance - should we insure in Spain or England. Insurers here indicate that we should insure in Spain. Anybody know the norm? If there is one!
Registration - should we register 'The Beast' in Spain and have Spanish registration plates? Anyone have any idea?
We are trying to do things the right way - who knew it could be so complicated???!!!
Thanks again Linda

You can register anywhere in Europe with varying degrees of red tape, but it is pretty straightforward really. If you opt for registering the UK you will have to drive it back here every year to MOT it. ::bigsmile:

New motorhomes are exciting aren't they :roflmto::roflmto:

Hi Linda
Further to Jim's answer on MOT's which is quite right ..... I believe if you register it in the UK but want to keep it in Spain you can only keep it in Spain for 6 months before you have to register it in Spain unless you bring it out for a short while

Does this make sense ?

Thanks guys!

Oo - er Mrs! I think these bureaucrats just like to torture us poor unfortunates so that no - one has a clue what to do!!!
Do you think it would still have to be registered in Spain after 6 months even if it's off the road?

Poor Tony!

Ha! I knew I'd only be on here 5 minutes before perfectly sane people began to doubt everything they thought they knew - but thanks anyway!
